What is the Hub? Why is the Hub ?
Ive spent years thinking about homelessness, community support and how difficult it is to rebuild a life when you fall through the cracks.
This is by no means a fully fledged out nonprofit preposal and ill admit i have done basically no research on the subject. Its just a concept ive been carrying in my head for years.
In essence The Hub is a centralized community support hub where the goal is stabilization not just surviving.
Lets be honest, lots of cities have community resources that are very helpful and sometimes underutilized by the population they are meant to help... or even worse over run with needs that they cant meet.
Programs like -
Food programs
Work programs
Low cost clinics
Shelters
Shower Trucks
Job assistance
Libraries
Recovery meetings
All helpful and needed for members of our community ... but the programs are spread around a city or moible units moving weekly or even daily with the hopes they could reach the people who need it most.
And for someone who is exhausted, carrying everything they own, struggling with mental or physical disabilities, recovering from addition, lacking transportation, and simply overwhelmed navigating through all the hoops to have access to things most of us consider basic necessities ... its a full time job.
It is a full time job to be homeless.
So what if all the resourse were in one place.?
Housing , showers, food, lockers, laundry, resume help, recovery meetings ,computer access and assistance, community programs , transitional housing, resource navigation, and spaces built around dignity, accountability and rebuilding stability. Not just here now you have things so you can survive... but come let us help you so YOU can rebuild your life.
So essentially, this blog is where im gonna put all the thoughts and plans ive put into this project.
Building layouts
Policies
Transition system
Resource model
And any and all problems I have and havent thought of yet.
I dont have all the anwsers this is just a concept of a plan on what it might look like if we as a community actively helped people get back on their feet instead of leaving them to navigate impossible systems on their own.
If you have any questions feel free to send in an ask, if you have experiences and have an idea that should be incorporated please share and if you have concerns or potential roadblocks i have no consider that should be addressed please share them... Please keep thw discussion respectful and constructive.... but im willing to listen and see if maybe we can come up with something we could put into action one day.
