Alex Webb shooting 5 Day Korean Market
As a student of photography, I'm always craving new materials that will teach, inspire, and challenge me all at the same time. I've decided to start collecting and sharing these on my blog so down the road I can see the different photographers and work that influenced me over time.
In this video from YouTube channel, Arirang, you get a rare insight into esteemed Magnum street photographer, "master of light", and my all time personal favorite, Alex Webb. You're able to see HOW he approaches street photography. How he handles difficult shooting situations, his calm energy when approaching subjects, and his poetic reflections over the art of street photography.
I had the opportunity to attend a workshop earlier this year with Alex Webb and his wife, Rebecca Norris Webb. (Still can't figure out how I snuck my way into that class!) They shared stories and insights in that workshop that have definitely influenced the way I see through my viewfinder and what I consider "kind of INTERESTING" and what's boring or predictable. They kept emphasizing the patience and curiosity which a street photographer needs in order to get an "interesting" shot. This video does a good job of showing how Alex Webb walks the walks...with a Leica M around his neck :)
