You've come of age, and tonight is your Ceremony. It's spring, and everyone is eager to welcome your peers as adults into the village. You will be sent off into the forest to meet your fate, as to keep the spirits pleased, everything must be done to maintain balance within the bounds of the trees.
Unfortunately, what is fated isn't always what is expected. Something else is happening, and you intend to find out what. Gifted visions, nightmares of sins long past, you have little idea what the spirits want.
On your journey, you will meet others who have been wronged by both spirits and man alike. It is up to you to understand what the forest truly wants.
What is the true price of balance?
Choose between Male, Female, and Non-Binary
Decide what name you have been given and customize your appearance. ( Some of your siblings' features will match your choices)
Choose your season of birth and the sky you were born under.
Navigate the forest searching for an answer. Pursue the truth behind the villages and the true nature of the spirits you have been raised to exalt.
Learn to spot the difference between men and monsters as you are exposed to the way of life outside of the villages. Some of the most terrifying monsters walk the same paths as you.
Build relationships. Fall in love, perhaps. Your actions will affect those around you, so be mindful of how you treat them
Amber: A thirdborn like yourself and gifted with healing power after the fall of her village. Both caring and capable, she has survived alone in the harsh swamp her village became after the spirits retook it.
Alecto: A firstborn from a neighboring village. Her plague touch developed as she grew, taking a deadly turn that caused the fall of her village.
Alvise: A secondborn who is suspicious of new people. He has been dealt a terrible hand in life. Having lost his first love and child, along with the entire village he came from. He blames himself for not being strong enough
Caius: What makes a man? Is flesh enough to call yourself a man? As if he appeared out of thin air, he will join you, ready to aid you in your journey to come. Though not without a few questions.

A year after the worst day of your life you are starting over in Raven Hill, NC a quaint area that overlooks Cold Mountain.
A small town with large secrets you aren't sure how to find your footing moving from the lively pace of the Outer Banks to the calm that the mountains offer.
Upon your arrival everything isn't quite what you expected. People are going missing again and all signs point to the mines. You find yourself drawn into the mystery that surrounds the town, and for better or worse you are going to find out what waits at the bottom of the mines.

In 1992 just three weeks before graduation you and three friends go camping. Everything was fine until it wasn't. What should have been a fun trip ends at the police station filing a missing persons report.
Ten years has passed and what remains of the friend group has returned to Bryson City to attend your high school class reunion. As you three return, strange things start to happen. Something or someone wants you to go back to the woods.

I will continue to work on chapter 5 and editing chapter 4 but I do not have a specific date for those yet as Cold Mountains demo is set to drop in January. Thank you all for your excitement!.
With the forest coming in first I would like to share something from Chapter 4. This Chapter will take you to Spire's Ward, the oldest city that men hail from and one that holds many secrets.
As for a preview I will add that below.

F - Feeling bold, you push Amber further back into the bed and shift so you are slightly above her. Leaning on an arm, you smile down at her, and she smiles back. This only lasts for a moment as you find your positions flipped. Amber leans down and presses a gentle kiss to your lips.
“Cute, we have a day to start, though.” She presses another kiss to your temple and moves from the bed.
E- Examining his body, you see a pendant that looks strange. You grab it and leave the room as a numbness starts to overtake you.
A - As you look out to the ridges, you notice that it has started to snow. A different version of you might have found something romantic in the snow as the sun sets, but currently you are just cold.
S - "Spirits and Souls bless this conversation, for I can't see a civil end," Alecto mutters under her breath.
T- The lights were so bright and everything hurt, blinking a few times to orient yourself with your surroundings. You look around the room and see the board.

I’ve started working more in chapter 5. I’m about a third of the way through give or take but should easily be able to wrap that up on time to keep everything on schedule.
More of a question, would you all like to see snippets of some sort, while I work on the next chapters at least?
Schedule changes: Due to things with writing and just some things in my personal life.
The Forest: Will still have an update this summer. Though It will be later than anticipated because I have received feedback about tenses in current chapters among other things and will be tackling those in addition to releasing new content. Chapter 4 is finished and could be released sooner as a solo chapter instead of two at a time as I have been doing potentially.
Cold Mountain: Hasn't changed much in anticipated time for the next update as far as I can see. In fact I have made decent progress recently and am happy with it so far. You will get Chapter 2 & 3 together in my current plan for the next update.
Third Project: I have moved things around in what I am working on so the Third project will be announced in the next couple of months if not earlier depending how much I get into it. Very excited about this and am forcing myself to be quiet until I finish a few more things.
When I work I go with what I know I will be most productive in doing. Which means having multiple projects is incredibly helpful for me as I work. This allows me to refresh my brain with an entirely different setting while remaining productive.
