Game of Thrones Series Finale (Spoilers)
Overall, this was a very good concluding episode. I have to be completely honest with you, say I really didn't think Jon was going to have it in him to kill Dany even if he wasn't in love with her...that's not a very Jon Snow thing to do! Jon has had this inner turmoil brewing in him, yes GOT is sci-fi/fantasy but you can't blame him for not wanting to sleep with his aunt anymore once he knows... now, let me tell you at least Dany got a better ending than Cersei, then I was thinking about the parallels between their deaths today. Dany ended by the man She was in love with, in his arms. Emilia mentioned in an article that in her final moments she wanted to show the softer side to Dany, somewhat whimsical. She delivered, she wanted a new/better world with her "love" but he never wanted that life, so.. he chose survival over her.
Cersei... oh man oh man oh man, yeah hi. There was so many ways to kill her in Jaime's arms... how about in the tower of the red keep? Dany could've literally burned them alive..Why was her demise a failure to escape...and in Jaime's arms? Why did the writers think she deserved that? Was it because she was with child? Cersei is a MONSTER..although in this episode and the one prior one could argue FAR differently. She was a tyrant without a doubt but then...Dany's descent into everything SHE has fought against 😔 her character deserved better, I hated the assassination of the ruler she could've become if she had just stayed on the right path.
Speaking of.. let me start ranting about BRAN! He gets pushed out of the window by the King Slayer, survives, handicapped because of it, becomes the Three-Eyed Raven (memory/Oracle) powers This little sh*t literally puts all this drama in motion. He's seen and can predict the future. He's calculating and manipulative he let JON get that close to DANY, waited until after he knew his brother was intimate with her to mention..oh, hey bro, she's your AUNT. (Annoyed) Bran refuses to be Lord of Winterfell yet has no problem accepting the role as king???? I was waiting for a better twist than that like Bran being the NK or something. Listen, I swear they went this route for shock value. And Tyrion thinking to choose Bran over Sansa???? LOL. No. What's really wild is the NK ended up not actually being the villain in the series. He was literally trying to get rid of Bran, Arya saved him. Of course we were fine with that until he's given the throne! Over Jon??? I don't care if he didn't want to be king he would've been a better choice. I think what irritated me most was Bran's commentary on why did Tyrion and the rest think he traveled all this way???? HE has literally done NOTHING. Let an unnecessary massacre occur, take people out so he could be king. Sam, I love you but let the grown ups talk. Bran's one saving grace is giving my baby Sansa what she's wanted her entire life. She went through SO much, deserved that ending. Arya, I was so worried for her but she just wants to keep moving on to what could be her next adventure. She was never a "lady" willing to stay put. I do hope that Gendry went after her because she deserves to be with him, he with her as they were truly right for each other with that once in a lifetime kind of love.
I must say that I was prepared for nearly all of my favorite characters to die. Tyrion is lucky that he managed to survive thanks to the help of Jon. You can tell that Jon struggled with his decision, had not done what he did, Tyrion would've died in the following scene. Jon :( I wanted a better ending for him rightful heir to the Iron Throne 😂 LOL you'll know when you watch the finale..he deserved better. Massive sigh that he was again basically sent into exile but at least he had Tormund, pretty much leader of his "people". THANK you GOT for giving GHOST back to Jon it made his ending tolerable.
Brienne writing and adding to Jaime's story and legacy 😭 I really thought she was going to reveal something but that would probably make it more painful. Jaime and Brienne both deserved better but Jaime was a creature of habit and ultimately his love for Cersei was more powerful than his love for anyone else.
Painful...painful was watching Drogon pretty much crying. The dragon showed more humanity than some characters in the show. Now, that was truly chilling in the best kind of way. A dragon a symbol of fear has more of a heart and conscience once its mother is gone. Drogon could've easily burned Jon alive for doing what he did, instead the dragon chose to flee without harming the man its mother loves. One that his mother of dragons would've chosen. I swear I thought Dracarys was going to be said at least 1-2 more times during the series finale and I'm shocked it wasn't. WOW. Drogon carrying her away was one of the most beautiful scenes in Game of Thrones, thankfully a better ending than Cersei. I am still in complete shock as to how and where Jaime and Cersei died. Like ???? What shattered me.. Truly shattered me is when Tyrion is walking through King's Landing and looking for relief of their plan in the hopes Cersei and Jaime would get their HEA so-to-speak, then you remember that she's pregnant with Jaime's child again..cue the water works.
There was so much to wrap up, I'm sorry if I missed any character but the majority of these are either the main characters or my favorites. I just want to thank the entire cast of Game of Thrones for their hard work, bringing their characters to life. Emilia, you have overcome so much and there will never be another Khaleesi like you. Maisie, Arya is easily one of the best characters ever written. Sophie, I admire Sansa's strength. So many people bet against her and look where she ended up. Kit, you were a wonderful tragic hero with a good moral compass that always did the right thing no matter the cost. Nikolaj, Jaime's redemption arc was everything and I don't see any other way his story Could've ended. Lena, you are brilliant. I hated Cersei the entire series, when she suffered truly suffered loss... you made her "likable" and then I went back to being tired of her wrath on everyone because of x,y, z. Peter, thanks to you Tyrion truly developed fully. Thank you to the incredible cast for bringing these characters to life and with so much depth, the creators, everyone behind the scenes. Our watch has ended but I will never forget how awe inspiring GOT was as a show... no matter how unsure I feel about the ending. I will leave you with this... I chose the right family from the start. Yes, I loved characters from other houses but ultimately not all of them. This show was an eye opener and that's exactly how the writers intended the audience to see it. 🐺🐉🦁
How are you feeling about it? @taylorswift
