New current read: Five On A Treasure Island by Enid Blyton. I decided to pick this up as my depression is kicking my ass and I needed something easy to read and comforting but didnโt fancy rereading Harry Potter again. I got the full series of these for an excellent price on The Book Bundle. HOWEVER, these books were written in the 40s and therefore are problematic by todayโs standards. They are definitely a product of their time but for my own fun Iโve decided to tab things that are out of date. Like. Iโm on page 13 and the things said about gender alreadyโฆ. ๐ฉ That said, I think itโs important to remember that these views were standard when the books were written and set. Still doesnโt make it right, but I do think historical context is important. All in all, Iโm reading this series because I loved Enid Blyton as a kid and needed something easy going yet still with a bit of intrigue becauseโฆ I remember 0 of the plots of these?? What were some of your favourite childrenโs reads? Would you read again now?
