"THE DROPS : WHY THEY MATTER - THE STORY"
This is the story of how the Drops (Jonah and Alden Raymond) came to be part of False Knowledge, and also how they came to be part of "the scene". It was a cold winter's evening in my friend Carolina's garage, and the Hopson Bros and I had just gotten there, and we were about to play our set (featuring covers of Fugazi's "Suggestion" and JTB's "Hey Friend"). It was then that I had a conversation about Black Flag/Swans with a guy named Jonah (about how awesome they are). We went on to play our set, and Jonah was very impressed afterwards when I talked to him again. I told him about my band False Knowledge, and he told me about the Drops, who were about to play that night. He also introduced me to his older brother Alden. Little did I know I had been talking to two future members of False Knowledge. The Drops put on an awesome set, and I was excited to hear more from them, so I invited them to play at an upcoming house show in my basement. They played it, and thus they were finally "in the scene" (not the first band I've introduced to "the scene", i.e. Naff Noise, Jocelyn Hollow). They thanked me and we kept in touch. Then "It" happened, and FK fell into a state of crisis. However, this state of crisis didn't last long, because False Knowledge is an impenetrable beast! I hit up Jonah and asked him if the Drops were interested in coming over and "jamming with FK". They were, and we started off by jamming with a few "classic" FK songs off of CD-1. It started to really work out, and I eventually worked up the courage to ask them if they'd join the band. They did. This began a new, better age of False Knowledge. We played several shows as a band (including the legendary show with Jawws that Levi Miller orchestrated and meticulously planned out). These shows proved that False Knowledge was much better with the Drops, and we had gone from a "decent rock band" to a "rocking punk band". This sound is what retains our status as "the greatest band out of Brentwood". The Drops not only make FK sound great, but we have similar musical influences. We all like the Melvins, the Replacements, Black Flag, early Modest Mouse, early country music, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, The Dead Kennedys, and many more artists that I "probably should have mentioned". So there you have it. The story of how False Knowledge came to be as it truly was meant to be - Who knew that such a small party at my friend Carolina's house could have such an impact on the history of my band?! Also, my good friend Johnny Hopson is recording an EP for the Drops which should be "Dropping" soon, so be on the lookout for that. As far as False Knowledge goes, get hyped for the Demo Tape we have dropping on July 10th #ONLYONSOUNDCLOUD !!! It will feature up to 15 tracks, and it will be MUCH better than the first demo tape (much better quality recordings, and EXCLUSIVE solo FK tracks done by me)! #STAYSAFE #GETHYPED Love, Levi Miller
