The Coppertone @ Dakota Tavern
I've been to many gigs in my time. It's one of the perks of living in Toronto my entire life. We have a great music scene, and everyone plays here at some point during their tour. Sometimes the band sucks live, or lives up to the hype, blows your mind with thousands or hundreds, or even dozens around you. Sometimes the band breaks up soon after. Sometime they stay obscure and you wonder why in the world no one cared. And sometimes they eventually get BIG.
You get the sense seeing an act early on, where you think to yourself or ramble on all night to your friends "Lets not get used to this. In a year or two we'll be in a larger place with a lot more people seeing the same band". That's what I thought as I did the obligatory post set smoking thing tonight at the Dakota. I think any one of us that have seen The Coppertone play over the last few months get that feeling things are going to get crazy for Amanda and her band in the very near future. There's just too much raw talent there. The songs are too good. The live set sounds stellar. With the Dine Alone allegiance, and the recent spike in popularity of the vintage blues rock & roll sound we first heard through our parents, it's a perfect storm. Also, Black Water is one fucking amazing song live. Very excited for everyone involved in that camp.
