2019 Drum Corps International Championships

One of the best seasons in DCI! Congratulations to EVERYONE who marched in drum corps this year - Thank you for keeping the activity alive & well. Blue Devils took their 19th title, and the captions went to various corps this year (which was refreshing to see). This has been one of the best Top 12 corps I have seen - definitely some of the most work ever put into the activity. I still cannot believe that The Bluecoats DID NOT WIN 1st place! It was the year of The Bluecoats in my own humble opinion - don’t get me wrong I love what BD has always brought, but man.... The Bluecoats!....It was their season. BD is like the Yankees - they’ve always got some of the best players, and they deliver every single year (which is not easy), but I don’t think BD was the underdog - Bluecoats were, and I still think they were the real champions, but again, that’s just one opinion - take it or leave it. Either way it does not take away from all of the awe-inspiring work each member has put in this year.

This is the Victory Performance from The Cadets back in ‘11 at DCI World Championships (field POV). TOTALLY worth checkin’ out! Absolutely insanely-detailed show (in typical drum corps flair). The Cadets DBC has ALWAYS been a significant influence for me (learned a great deal from a good amount of former Cadets who taught me in Magic what drum corps truly is all about).

One of my favorite Cadets shows, this is the second half of “To Tame The Perilous Skies” (David Holsinger). A show concept focused around the power of Aviation & Flight, this show is full of nods & tributes to jets, dog-fighting, & soaring in the sky. A must for any fan of The Cadets (one of my ALL-TIME favorite corps & one of the oldest) or any fan of Aviation.

SUCH an incredible corps and even more incredible performance. One of the hardest working corps in DCI - Cadets always have a natural power to inspire people. Absolutely Brilliant!👏👏

The Cadets have always been one of the hardest working corps in DCI. This video clip is merely a snapshot example taken during a typical 12-hour-day in the life of a drum corps. Absolutely AWESOME!

“Behold” The Cadets!

The Cadets are one of the oldest & hardest-working drum corps in DCI (based in Allentown, Pennsylvania). Without a doubt one of my all-time favorite corps.

I saw The Cadets in 2000 in Orlando, Florida... that brassline (Gino Cipriani’s brassline) was life-changing for me. I never had music just feel so powerful (without amplification) - just raw human power. I had the honor of marching with a few folks who marched that season (and also being taught by Gino; also Jeff Sacktig, Brad, and Zack to name a few) - and I loved hearing the stories of that corps and their traditions and history... an absolutely essential part of DCI. I learned so much from a handful of folks who taught me so much about working smarter & with more mental & physical endurance & clarity. I always admired their awesome examples and unspoken connection as people who were a part of such a rich, old corps that has inspired so many people to perform & strive (regardless of corps). I always considered it an honor to work in an activity surrounded by people who had been World Champions (which allowed me to become one after I did the damn work). I am SO looking forward to The Cadets’ shows in the future when DCI comes back full force. They are one of the best corps around.
