Me & @audrey_snyder ’s project ‘Into the ground’ is now into LA thanks to an exchange of art works and ideas between @clockshopla and @socratespark. The work will be parked at #TheBowtieProject through the end of September, 2019. For the installation at the Bowtie, we proposed to adapt the sculpture from its NYC origins to respond more specifically to this new/old site’s history, needs, and causes for use.⁣ ⁣ We removed the rust-dyed cover from the car and used the material to re-upholster seats that we welded into the steel frame. So the cover of the car is peeled back, and pulled into the interior. From the inside out, the seats are meant to be an open invitation for pause or rest near the center of the Bowtie. For us this geographic center is not a static location. The center is a concept often determined by very particular sets of reasons or desires. Centers change as people move around, such that a place may have multiple centers. As visitors here, Los Angeles feels like a place where the centers at any given moment are determined by automobiles. ⁣ ⁣ With that in mind, we hope this work re-centers the peripheral vision of a site like the Bowtie.
