Learning how to say "no" to things is a huge game changer. I hear from so many people that they just don't have enough time...and the only way to generate more time in your life is to eliminate things that are taking up your time. Start saying no to the things that don't feel right for your life. Say no to the things that hold you back from moving towards your goals and your dreams. Say no to the things that aren't moving you towards the life that you actually want to create for yourself. Not everyone is going to like hearing "no" - especially if you're usually a yes person. People might get upset, angry, frustrated.....but in case you've forgotten, your freedom is more important than someone else's anger. Say no with kindness and grace, but also with confidence. "No, thank you" can be a complete sentence. You don't need to explain yourself, you don't need a thousand excuses or reasons or justifications for your choice. It takes practice....but the rewards are so worth it. Some of the greatest lessons in my life have been taught by these two. Determination Creativity Courage Imagination Strong-will Honesty Self-love Children truly live their lives without apology. This isn't always a good (or enjoyable) thing, especially for the parents...but it certainly IS something to admire. They say what they want, they wear what they want, they do what they want and they wear their hearts on their sleeves. They are bold...not yet restricted by the social norms, not yet living in fear of judgment, ridicule or embarrassment. They are FREE. Kids don't have to think about being all of these things. It's effortless. They come naturally and are just part of being a kid. Unfortunately, it tends to fade as we get older....but seeing these qualities reflected in my children on a daily basis provides a constant reminder to myself to practice these same qualities. If you are not absolutely, head over heels, in love with your life - then you are doing something wrong. Let me explain - I'm not saying there won't be hardships and bumps along the way, but you should love all the pieces you have chosen to have in your life. Think about the things that make you feel most alive and make them a priority. Figure out what is dragging you down and cut it from your life. Make some tough decisions and some difficult changes if you must - but you deserve to be in love with your life. There is no "I'll start tomorrow" when it comes to exercise and fueling your body. Tomorrow is disease. That's a pretty powerful statement. And it should be. When you're young, treating your body right isn't usually on the top of the priority list. But as you get older, the body doesn't quite bounce back the same way. The metabolism has slowed down, our cells just aren't quite as efficient as they used to be, and our bodies thrive on exercise and proper nutrition to simply function and stay healthy. Disease is just waiting, lurking in the shadows, to rear its devastating head, and everyday that you aren't doing well by your body - it's just coming closer and closer. If you're an adult, and you still are not taking your physical fitness and nutrition seriously - you need to stop and give your head a shake. Stop and consider exactly what you are doing to your body. Stop and consider what kind of quality of life you want when you're 50? 60? 70 years old? Do you want to be active and healthy, playing with your grandkids and traveling the world? Or do you want to be ill, living in a nursing home? If this sounds harsh - good. It's meant to.
