Hello, yes. Here to agree wholeheartedly about how boring it is when DMs don't incorporate PC's backstories into the game. I don't understand it because I get so excited when my players give me info and I get that evil giggle going because I'm already thinking about twists and reveals and connections that will get them excited/make them mad/break their heart. Like, it makes it so fun for me because RPing is about playing off of each other, DMs included.
Absolutely!! Like the story is about the player characters, not the DM being a control freak who wants to impose things only their way. So many people DM with this mindset and it drives me fucking nuts. Like have you never watched, read, or played any type of epic? Sure, theres an overarching plot, but the story is ultimately about people and how they develop or regress. And that always ties into the main plot somehow, as it should.

1. I just started listening to the spongebob musical ocr (I’ve been following the show since Chicago, but I hadn’t really sat down to listen to the soundtrack because while I’m a fuckin hipster I’m also dumb as hell) so No Control from that soundtrack has been my jam recently (written by fucking David Bowie go listen right now)2. Apex Predator and I’d Rather Be Me from Mean Girls the musical (can you sense a theme?) have me living because I’m so in love with Barrett Wilbert Weed it’s not even funny.
I’m just now getting out of this weird music funk where I’ve been listening to the same shit I’ve always listened to as a safety blanket, and I’m finally reaching out again and discovering other things so like that’s cool. If anyone has suggestions please send them to me.
