Oh my god oh my god oh my GOD lowkey monster boys is one of my favorite stories and idk how I got so attatched I would never be upset with you for the context you're just giving me an excuse to go off again

So like, character-wise we have The Boys: Leif, Martin, Tripp, Cameron, Luke, and Thomas and they're just out here vibin in art school having a grand old time and then one of their classmates goes missing and resurfaces about a week later with a very poorly made disguise and the ability to suck the oxygen out of the surrounding air

And they all go ?????? And help her out and now they're aware of this entire thing going on where monsters exist and can Monster-ize TM other people and one by one they each run into a monster that goes "haha I like this one" and gives them some powers

The monsters themselves are a weird thing to explain and unfortunately I'm on mobile so adding visuals sucks so I'll try my best. Say you had character A and A is the Lead Monster. They are the oldest monster in this specific Line of monsters. Each line has a specific genre of ability they can grant you and only the Lead Monster can do it.

So A, the Lead Monster, gives characters B, C, and D monster powers. One of the things that happens to Lead Monsters is they can take on a unique fully monstrous form. It gives them extra power and they're pretty much unstoppable, but they lose awareness and eventually just become fully feral if stuck like that for too long. Once a Lead Monster becomes feral and can no longer take on a human form, the oldest person to have gotten powers would become the Lead Monster, so in this case Character B

This is such a fun thing to mess with tbh and my favorite example of it is Alora. She's a dream monster and exists solely in her victim's subconscious. The Lead Monster that gave her her powers did that too, and in the process of forcing her to accept being a monster the two somehow got fused together. If Alora's Lead Monster went feral, so would she. But she can't because she's not the Lead Monster, so she's just stuck like that. She's one of the most dangerous monsters The Boys come across, but ironically her entire situation makes the Boy she gives powers to the safest Boy becuase it means he never has to face the risk of someday becoming a Lead Monster

You asked about Jinx specifically and they're also funky!!! They have so many powers. They Have So Many Powers currently the list is

-personifying their shadow to do things for them

-more generalized shadow type abilities

-being aware of the narrative and using tropes to their advantage

-being able to do good things for people to trap them in debts of "you owe me one" and using those to keep powerful people from hurting her/making them do things they wouldn't normally do

-minor generalized mind control, more powerful mind control specifically on Lead Monsters

-minor illusions (they aren't good at them yet)

Cause JINX was fucking WILD they were a travelling magician with their partner Raven and came across stories of the monsters. Became obsessed with them and eventually found someone who had managed to come in contact with and obtain almost every strain of monster abilities there are without becoming a Lead Monster because there was so much variety. They're basically a living archive of every line of monsters that's ever existed

So Jinx begged them to give her powers and they agreed at a price (their eye) and gave them their shadow powers first. Now every time they master a power, she can go back to the archive and ask for a new one which is why shes figured out a bunch of ways to use shadows but kinda sucks at illusions

Also there's monster hunters and theres this guy who made a bar for monsters and hunters to just chill together and I think they're funky
