So apparently the female Yin and Yang of Archie Comics, Betty and Veronica, will quit playing in The Archies and start their own group next month in a one-shot comic book that’s probably shorter than its title, “Betty & Veronica Friends Forever: Rock ‘N’ Roll.” Of note, the issue will have a few variant covers which spoof/pay homage to (take your pick) the iconic covers of Blondie’s classic 1981 “Rapture” single and Joan Jett’s 1983 “Album”…er…album. It’s not the first time Archie comics has leaned into the punk world—there’s been one-off issues of the Archies meeting the Ramones and Blondie, and the terrible 2001 Josie & the Pussycats movie had a stellar soundtrack featuring punky power-pop all-star collaborations from the GoGos, Fountains of Wayne, Letters To Cleo, Jellyfish, Matthew Sweet and many more.

The season 3 premiere of Riverdale should open with a totally cheesy remake of The Archie's "Sugar Sugar" animated music video with all the core four performing the song (Archie on guitar, Veronica on Keyboard, Betty on tambourine, and Jughead on drums). It would also include the little cut scenes of B and V dancing with the flashy backgrounds and everyone in their classic outfits. We definitely deserve more than the little snippet of that song in the first episode they gave us and would be a great contribution to the Archie comics franchise and would keep the "this isn't the REAL Archie comics" people satisfied. Once the video is over, it would cut to a scene of Archie waking up in a prison cell, dreaming up the whole thing, and continuing with the normal plot line.

NYC artist John Matos, aka Crash, got his start with painting when he began bombing trains alongside older teens, but says he didn't come by his name "Crash" until after accidentally crashing the school computer. As a kid he says his summer reading always consisted of comic books, and "memories of my childhood at New York City beaches always centered on Coney Island." When asked to participate in the Coney Art Walls project in 2016 he decided to combine those memories and "make the idea of reading at the beach the central theme of the mural." Crash cropped different images from some of his favorites including Captain America and Superman, and used Betty from the Archies for his central figure.  @crashone @coneyislandartwalls
