The Age: La Trobe A Destination for Bollywood Dreamers [25 June 2007]
Scenes for the Bollywood extravaganza Salaam Namaste were shot on the university's Bundoora campus in March 2005, triggering a significant increase in interest from Indian students looking for academic places.
Pashmeen Manchanda, 22, studying a master's of professional accountancy, saw the film in India two years ago after she decided to come to La Trobe. Ms Manchanda said the film had had an enormous impact on students in India. "They all thought the university was really pretty and the film showed the university well and they want to come here and see the university life," she says. She says she has one female friend who enrolled at La Trobe after seeing the film.
The attraction, she says, was the contrast with other city-based universities that were congested. "This is more like a picnic spot with a little lake with ducks and a little zoo at the back with kangaroos and a graduate house."

Weekends have been for coffee and the Age crossword at the Moyston General Store, ever since it reopened in it's new form a couple of years ago. We're making do with takeaway coffee and our own garden (yesterday). This morning the sky was very ominous/promising but we walked anyway, and just made it home without getting too wet.
