That's my atttempt number mumblemumble of an idea where Wheeljack (TFP) takes a big hit to the head and loses his memory of basically the entire war, and Team Prime gets to experience what he was like before The Cynicism(tm) ate his soul.

It's one part long-form thesis of "G1 and Prime Wheeljacks aren't that different, you cowards" and one part a grand complicated narrative to make the OTP kiss -- interacting with Wheeljack when he's trusting and relaxed is a new experience for everyone except Bulkhead (and even he gets to experience new sides of him, they did meet when they were both already Wreckers) and it hits Bulkhead right where it hurts because oh fuck he yearns he wants he always wished he could have a future with Wheeljack and now it looks like the Wheeljack that he loved might be gone and it's not fair for him to project those feelings onto Jackie as he is now, so he's happy and also kind of dying on the inside about it

and meanwhile Wheeljack (not stupid) is like "oh no hello soldier", his crush on Bulkhead re-emerges immediately but without the buffer of shared history he has no options but to be terribly horribly awkward about it. And Bulkhead being astonishingly nice to him doesn't help. Basically, for him this is a romantic comedy with the slight mishap that apparently his memories don't stay where they're supposed to but whatever he's a genius, he can work with that.
