Jon Hamm is still in his lane, handsome men with secrets, but on Your Friends & Neighbors the secret comes with burglary, panic, and a very expensive zip code. He told me slipping back into Coop was easy because Jonathan Tropper gave the character such a clear rhythm, and Hamm sounded perfectly happy to enjoy the ride while somebody else worried about where all the tracks lead.
What I really liked was how blunt he was about that division of labor. “I’m glad I didn’t have to write Don Draper or Coop, but I love playing them.” We also got into Coop’s movie taste, The Warriors, Bloodsport, Thief, and the buried treasure of Jon Hamm apparently doing Talking Heads karaoke that still hasn’t been fully released into the world.
