still working on the chapter 12 of The Offering but it'll be out tomorrow (Saturday US time) at some point, stay tuned
Hello !
I just finished reading The Offering, which I loved with my whole being !
I am usually not one for self insert or Y/N, but I loved Mythie and her journey this far.
I have not cringed even once, which is a testament to your writing style and prowess.
But, seeing as I now have read every chapter (since the 12th as not yet come out) I have a ✨question✨
I know that you don’t answer questions if they spoil something in the future (because you visibly do not like spoilers and I love you for that) but it’s been haunting me (I dramatize) :
Did any of the Offerings before Mythie try the Seduction Route™️ like they had been advised to do by the others ? Or did they display other talents like singing, dancing ect… or did they panic and tried to flee, futile as it was ?
Anyway, I am very curious and would like to know. But of course don’t answer if it’s a spoiler.
All in all, have a nice day/night !

hi! tysm for this ask. this is my first fanfic written in second-person ("you") POV, and i'm thrilled you're enjoying it! like you, x-reader fics aren't my typical style. historically i've stuck to OC/canon works, but i've found the second-person POV to be a fun challenge for The Offering in particular.
as for your question: Yes. I think multiple Offerings over the centuries have tried the seduction route. others have tried singing, dancing, or other arts. still more have tried to reason with Imu. some have begged. some have castigated. others have run.
he killed them all.
(more under the read more)
tbh when the Offering system first started, i think there's a good chance the Offerings didn't always get killed after a single night. some might have lasted longer. but eventually, as the years wore on, we reached the "he kills them on night 1" status quo, and it's been that way for so long that no one recalls anything different (the Offerings were probably more spaced out at the start/before their current oral history practices developed, leaving gaps in their knowledge of the early days)
we're left with "why" past attempts to appeal for his mercy failed. I'm flirting with spoilers as i answer, but I don't think it's a big leap to understand the reason why he would have killed so many. Imu is hundreds of years old. He's heard singers. He's seen dancers. He has access to the most beautiful paintings and has probably met the most cunning minds that ever lived. He's eaten every food on the planet and sipped every wine. There's very little out there that can surprise this man. Very little can delight him after he's seen and experienced more than anyone human will ever experience in their lifetime.
but as they say, the man who reads is the man who lives 1000 lifetimes. mythie's stories offer something Imu hasn't felt in a long time, though I'll leave what exactly that is for the story.
tysm for reading and for the ask <3 i'm working on chapter 12 now and i intend to drop it sometime this weekend, though the exact date isn't quite fixed (some stuff came up today that impacts my writing time)...see you then and thanks so much for reading!
So I was just listening to he’s my man by Luvcat (love that song to death) and tell me why I immediately thought of mythie and imu. Like she’s been stuck in a terribly awkward conversation with one of the five elders or one of the holy knights (cuz all of them suck) where it was clear that the elder had the upper hand/more power and was making mythie incredibly uncomfortable (I imagine the conversation being more so then kind of bullying her in a way and her just trying to hold her ground as much as she can) and she’s just wishing for this conversation to end and all of a sudden comes imu and the person who was making mythie uncomfortable does a full 180 and is all like “oh great one what can I do for you” and imu (being oblivious to the situation in hating was going on before he arrived) is all like you can go do your job, tf? And cue the person skidadling and mythie just taking the biggest breath and all of a sudden imu is all like art thou alright and mythie before she could stop herself just wraps her arms around his torsos and buries her face in his chest and imu just visibly stiffens because i doubt this guy has let anyone touch him with a ten foot pole in the last eight centuries let alone let someone bury their face in his man tits so he’s a little out of practice but he doesn’t hate it because he’s also like touch starved, again he hasn’t had any physical affection in like over 8 hundred years and that’s if he had any physical affection in the years before he created the wg, but he slowly remembers what’s going on and just wraps his arms around my two and holds her there. Please I’m going feral, I need him to hold me for the rest of eternity. Also love the idea of touch starved imu. Okay that’s all, thanks for taking the time to read all of this, sorry for any grammatical errors (it’s way past my bed time and I can’t be bothered to go back and correct everything ) I love you, super excited for chapter 12! Bye!

linking your recommended mood music as people read your head-canon/snippet...it really captures the mood of Mythie lying there waiting for Imu, the only social interaction they ever have...
Late September in the city The sky is grey, the air is sticky I keep falling in and out of sleep Letting the sun scorch the grass The flies are knocking on the glass But they're the only other friends I have, you see I need him so much that it hurts I wish he didn't have to go to work And I just lie and watch the ceiling fan turn
and i love the idea of a touch-starved Imu, too, and we are getting that in the main storyline for sure! Mythie is also touch-starved so i think it's gonna be a bit of a touchy powderkeg whenever that barrier falls down...
tysm for sharing your idea with me, i loved reading it, i want to punt the Elders into Saturn's rings so they can just die there <3 <3 <3
Hiii! I posted a comment yesterday? Or the day before in AO3 about how I pictured reader in “The Offering”! Umm I’m still drawing them! I do picture them as a she but at the same time not really getting gender from them makes me think of them/their.
But very I do kinda have to blame you a bit for their inspo color pallet! I got a pretty copper for their hair, bright purple for their eyes, and dusky rose skin tone. … It’s very sunset themed which for obvious reasons feel very appropriate!
Also obviously named them Tava for Tav! Though I will admit I almost nicknamed them Saga.
… Your characterization of Imu I think is amazing! It feels very close to what we are seeing and tho I do have to wonder! Like in the Empty Throne room dais when Tava mentions the “Future” implying that one day they will also be replaced is that why Imu echoed them and even his brows like twitched? Cause since he seems to have forgotten a lot about being human, and with how long the Elder Stars and those close to him are immortal. Did he forget that his offerings are still beholden to the passing of time? Since he can obviously still kill them without receding his covenant. So he obviously doesn’t feel pain or have a “price” for their deaths.
… Also Saturn’s comment about how ya can’t remove it because it was placed on Tava’s nape makes me think another Offering tried in the past to remove theirs.
I am very curious as them when exactly are we in the Tim line because I am soo curious if we’re going to see Tava run into anyone they shouldn’t(besides the potential slave that will probably get killed that ya foreshadowed). Like Rocks and Sabo both managed to sneak in and meet and see Imu during the Revere. …Hmmm. I have a lot of thoughts if ya couldn’t tell!
But thanks so much for making this! One of the best Imu fics out here!

to be fair, the story is "one of the best" kind of by default since there aren't many stories about Imu to begin with; we're all one of the best in our own unique and special ways! (´ ⌣ `ʃƪ)♡ AKA tysm for the kind words; i'm trying not to get a big head over the very very very kind praise!
great to see you on here as well as on AO3! i like your headcanon for "Tava" (we tend to call the reader-insert "Mythie" on Tumblr but personal nicknames are welcome as well) and the sunset coloring definitely works with the story's theme...i did a poll a while back about how people see Mythie and it's great to hear how you view the character <3
and i believe you're referencing this scene:
hehehe you're asking the right questions about Imu's reaction to Mythweaver mentioning the future offerings. that moment sets the stage for Imu's development in a big way, and clearly Mythie's words triggered some kind of thought or reaction he'll need to mull over...but i'll just leave it at that for now. <3 more to come soon!
the timeline question is another great one, and the good news is that we've gotten some clues in the story (Garling being a "young" man) that give us a vague sense of when this might be taking place. we've also discussed the timeline matter here if you'd like to read some past posts, and these discussions led us to talking about Sabo, Shanks, and Rocks!
i can't wait to reveal more! tysm for the ask and the kindness, and see you here and on AO3, ocean-anon 🌊!

A few readers have remarked upon the sheer number of Offerings Imu has been able to abduct in The Offering, and a few have wondered why no one has caught on that princes/princesses/mayors' children from around the world are being taken by the World Government with some regularity.
The answer lies in the Native Hunting Competition.
Spoilers for Egghead and beyond below the cut.
