You scrambled through the papers in front of you, stressed out about your next final exam. Being a student wasn't for the weak. You were sitting on the balcony of your apartment, spending time with your boyfriend before he leaves on Friday. Studying outside wasn't so bad, fresh air, the sun setting, the beautiful lit up city in front of you, and boyfriend time that was until...
The cold air hits you, triggering the anxiety in you as your grade was on the line. Your last year of studies is approaching and you want to leave 3rd year with a great impression.
As you focused on the notes, your boyfriend next to you was taking a drag of his cigarette. Inhaling and exhaling the smoke. The smell of the smoke hitting your nose, making you scrunch it up.
You looked over at him, he was leaned back in the patio chair, hair tied back in a bun, feet up on the stool, and taking a drag from the cigarette. God, he looked hot. You couldn't complain, but you had to let him know.
"Tama, do you mind?"
He looked over at you.
"What?"
"I'm fucking stressed, I have a final tomorrow and here you are blowing smoke in my face." you said annoyed.
"I'm blowing it into the air, not at you. God, you're so self-absorbed." he responded, clearly annoyed as well.
You huffed in frustration.
"And I thought we were spending time with each other."
"We are!" he exclaimed.
You frowned, shutting your notebook with the loose papers trapped inside.
"I can't do this anymore." you said as your eyes started to water.
The tension started to grow on the balcony.
He looked over at you, exhaling the smoke out of his mouth, but not too much in a way that it hits your face. He drops the cigarette onto the concrete floor before stepping on it with his foot, putting it out. He picked it up and flicked it into the ashtray, before turning to you, giving you his full attention.
"Y/N..." he trailed, scooting closer to you.
"What's wrong?" his expression growing soft.
"I'm so fucking over school! These profs and the school just love burning us out. 4 finals Tama, 4! I can't anymore!" you buried your face into your hands and started to let the waterworks out.
"Hey, listen" he said putting a comforting hand on your back and rubbing it soothingly.
"It's going to be okay. Listen, a year from now you won't have to worry about this shit anymore. I know you love to make it to the Dean's List every semester. But think about yourself too, give yourself some grace. You've come so far and you're almost done. Don't let these exams or temporary shit bring you down from your grind. I admire it, all of it and the dedication you put into your studies. But still, don't work yourself up over this. Do your best, and I know without a doubt you'll kick these finals' asses. You hear me?" he assured softly, taking your soft hands in his.
You looked over at him through your watery eyes, and into his deep brown eyes. God, he may get on your nerves at times, but he was the best boyfriend you could ever have. The sides of your lips curved up into a smile.
"For real Tama?"
"As real as Loa loves his sweets" he joked, earning a giggle from you.
"You know what though? Now I'm craving donuts is Krispy Kreme still open?"
Tama checked the time on his phone.
"Closes in an hour, it's 10 minutes away from here. We still got time, let's go!" he says, getting up.
You grabbed his forearm, stopping him. He looked back down at you.
"Actually, can we do something before we leave?" you asked, biting your lower lip.
Tama smirked knowing what you wanted, but knew how time consuming it'd be.
"Baby, by the time we're done, that donut shop is going to close. And don't tell me to ask Loa to convince them to make an exception for you just because he's dating the owner's daughter." he said.
You cringed.
"No, no. It's not that...it's something else that I want and we're fully clothed for this of course" you blushed.
Tama cocked a brow at you, wondering what is on your mind.
You raised your head up this time in confidence to look him in the eyes.
"Shotgun me" you breathed.
Tama's eyes widened at you.
"What?"
"You heard me. I want to breathe, I couldn't help but find it attractive seeing you smoke so I want you to shotgun me" you explained.
Tama was still in disbelief.
"A Criminal Justice student wants me to shotgun her? What are your parents, peers and future colleagues gonna think? Hell the community that you're supposed to protect-"
"Weren't you in the Air Force before? And here you are. Like our interests in safety and security was what got us together. Besides, you told me to have fun when I first started this program. So I'm having fun."
He thought about it for a moment, before he sat back down on his patio chair. He took his cigarette pack out, pulling one out and lighting it up. With the sky getting darker and the moonlight shining on Tama's skin as he lit up the cigarette, the view never looked more hotter. The blaze was blown out, leaving only amber shining at the butt of the cigarette. Tama exhaled the smoke, before turning to look at you, holding the addiction between his fingers.
With his free hand, he motioned you to come over to him.
In excitement and eagerness, you moved your chair next to his.
He gripped your chin with his fingers holding you in place.
"Open your mouth" he instructed, which you obliged to, opening your mouth.
He took a drag from the cigarette, holding it before moving his lips towards yours.
Thrill built up in you, but you were also nervous on how this would turn out.
He blew the smoke into your mouth, the air hitting your uvula. The smoke ended up being too much as you started to cough.
Tama quietly chuckled.
"Shut up!" you snapped, shoving his shoulder.
"You're supposed to inhale it" he said.
"Wow, Captain Obvious. You told me at the right time" you said, still coughing.
"Okay, let's try again and this time inhale" he suggested.
"INhale" you said mocking him, making him scoff.
He held your chin as he took another drag, and moved his lips closer towards yours, leaving a fingertip gap between you two.
He blew the smoke into your mouth, this time you inhaled, and the smoke didn't irritate your mouth like it did before, and it felt so right inhaling it.
You opened your eyes, looking into Tama's eyes, smiling at him as you exhaled it. He grinned widely.
"How was that?" he asked.
"Amazing, I feel less stressed now. Thank you"
"That's what I like to hear. Do you want to take another one?' he asked.
"Hell yeah" you nodded.
He smirked as he took another drag, and brought his head closer to yours again, bringing the smoke to your lips, and blowing it into your mouth again. You inhaled it, letting it rule you again. This was going to be your new guilty pleasure.
You and Tama looked at each other smiling, you then nodded letting him know that you wanted another round.
He took another drag, before bringing it to your lips again.
"Toko?" interrupted another voice.
Tama quickly exhaled the smoke onto your lips as he turned his head towards the balcony doors in shock, as you were too. You swore you locked the front door.
Talla was standing there watching you two with a surprised look on his face, before turning it into a smirk.
"Damn, Y/N I didn't know you were bad like that too" he said in a deep voice.
"Talla, what the hell are you doing in my apartment? And how did you even get in?"
"You gave me the spare key"
You were confused. He's gotta be lying.
"I didn't give you any key. The only person I gave a spare key to was Tama and-" you quickly looked over at Tama.
His eyes widened as he took his keys out of his pocket and noticed that your apartment one was missing. You both turned to Talla giving him a dirty look.
He raised his hands up in defeat.
"Listen, I was trying to call Toko and wanted to ask if I could use his grass shears for my lawn since mine's broke and he wasn't answering his phone."
"You couldn't wait for him to get home?" you asked.
"Hey, I have buddies coming over! I don't want my lawn to look like a forest" he defended.
"You stole her apartment key from me" said Tama, clearly agitated himself.
"You guys come home together all the time! You don't need it!" exclaimed Talla.
You got up.
"Do I need to tell your girlfriend & your dad that you were trespassing into my apartment?" you snapped.
"Please don't, I just want to know if I can use the shears!"
"YES!" yelled Tama.
"And don't barge into my girlfriend's apartment again!"
"I cross my heart" said Talla.
"Good, now get out" you said, pointing towards your door inside.
He turned to leave.
"And leave the keys on the table!" you called out.
He left the keys, and exited your apartment.
As soon as the door shut you sat down beside Tama, letting out a sigh.
"Can you believe him?" you asked, turning to him.
"You're surprised? I grew up with that. I still have so many stories to tell you about him." said Tama.
You couldn't help but laugh at the childish antics between both brothers. He started to laugh too.
Tama then checked the time, his eyes widened.
"Okay, we've wasted a half an hour. We better get going before the shop closes" he said.
"Wait" you said stopping him.
"Now what?"
"I want one last round, but to do something different"
Tama sighed.
"Really Y/N?"
"I promise, it's the last one!" you begged.
"Are you sure?" he asked.
You nodded in confirmation.
Tama sighed before taking out another cigarette, lighting it up and taking a first drag, exhaling it. He motioned you over to him again.
You brought your lips closer to his once again. He took a drag, and blew the smoke between your lips. You inhaled it, but this time you did something different. You pressed your lips onto his, he froze for a second before gripping your hair and returning the kiss. The burnt smoke being tasted on both of your lips as they meshed together. His tongue entering you, and locking it in with yours.
You both pulled away moments later, smiling and your foreheads pressed against each other.
"Love you, and thank you for helping me de-stress. It helped a lot" you breathed against him.
"Love you too, I'm glad I could help. Also, look how far we've come, can you believe that we hated each other at first?" he questioned in disbelief, remembering the day you both first met and couldn't stand to be near each other.
"I know, I'm glad we bonded over our common interests, and you offered to help me with the policing course so I gave you a chance. Otherwise, I don't know what would've happened."
Tama chuckled, "Talla would've been next in line with the way he was looking at you, but he's happy with his girl now."
"Yeah, Thank God." you giggled, pulling your forehead away from his.
"Shall we go now ma chérie?" he offered.
"We shall mon chér" you accepted, with a wide grin which he loved.
Collecting your things, you both went inside your apartment hand in hand.
You locked and secured the exterior and interior balcony doors while Tama was putting his shoes on, and waiting for you at the front door.
Covering the glass doors with the curtain, you then went over to him as he opened the door for you. Before that, you quickly grab your key from the coffee table, making sure that Talla never gets a hold of them ever again.
You were heading out the door, before you stopped in your tracks and turned to him, smirking at him with an idea.
"What is it now?" he asked, rolling his eyes.
"You know, you smoking is really hot. The way you shotgunned me tonight was even hotter. I think we should do that in the bedroom to spice things up don't you think? To reduce our stress?" you suggested, running your hand up his chest.
Tama snorted.
"You will be the death of me, lady."
You giggled, making your way out, but not before Tama smacked your rear.
You both exited the apartment, and walked down the hallway, on your way for your sweet treat.
Nothing felt better than this, and the exam jitters vanished. You couldn't love this man more.
