Come to think of it, Shadow Weaver is one of the best-written characters in She-Ra (and that's high praise cause the show has some very strong character work).
On the one hand, she remained a pragmatic bitch till the end, realizing soon enough that there was no way for her to survive and arranging her own little heroic death. In a way, she's the kind of villain who won even when losing. She got to establish dominance over Catra and Adora one last time, maybe even change the narrative about herself as she'd always thought she was a good guy and wanted to be remembered as such.
On the other hand, her fate really reminds of that situation (not sure if it's a trope) when a person who has been terrible to other people all their life discovers they're about to die, and desperately tries to do one good thing, with no remorse or self-reflection, not trying to make up for the damage done, but just to feel good about themselves. There is something so pitiful about that it makes me almost (almost) sorry for her (my sympathy vanishes as soon as camera pans to Catra and Adora crying their eyes out, traumatized by Shadow Weaver again).
I didn't like that Shadow Weaver got to have a heroic sacrifice at first, but now I think the writers did a great job of showing a pathetic person hiding behind a mask of cruelty.
