there are only two ways you could make that formation video to get back at azealia banks---1) you believe that formation *belongs to everyone* because it's a popular song (an idea the antiblackness of which has been explored fully, many times) or 2) you believed that the best way to "satirize" an offensive action by a singluar Black woman (and hence promote yourself) was by taking a song made explicitly for Black women, one of the most oppressed groups in America, and a video, filled with specific imagery related to that ongoing and monstrous oppression, the severe misogynoir of which is obvious. There is no good read. And shame, shame on The Aerogram for even *suggesting* that this was indicative of any type of solidarity.

For readers of this blog - most of who must of course be aware of Sabina’s work and tumblr - Sabina was one of the first handful of supporters of this blog. You know the people who cause that sudden spurt in likes and follows of a hitherto quiet blog:) I also love her style. Still remember an old post of hers where she answered a query on hair care (probably stashed away in my drafts), it was a neat mix of traditional care that is handed down to us by families and the modern.
She is also selected as an Emerging Artist for 2016 - awesome!

Do you not see that the United States has built itself on the backs of black people; that it continues to demean and exploit black and Hispanic people? Do you not see, bhaiya, that most seats in medical schools are taken by white and Indian people because other groups are not afforded the same opportunities? Why is it that you think we, in the desi diaspora, are more deserving of education than others?

The earliest example of a stringed instrument originates from the Egyptian period where the first plucked string instrument to be found was a bow shaped harp. In the years to follow a necked instrument was developed with precise marked frets (those raised lines on the neck of the guitar).
Specific to South Asia the name “Guitar” itself derives from ancient Sanskrit for “strings” which translates into “tar”. To this day many stringed folk instruments are in use in central Asia without many significant changes being made to them. The Indian sitar, was itself an innovation for its time. Indians developed it comprehensively based on the inspiration they took from the Persian culture and their setar. [The Aerogram]
