Passing isn’t a stupid concept it’s a goal for a trans man or trans woman. Passing is literally just when you indeed look like the gender you are. If a straight up man in a dress walks into the woman’s bathroom, that’s an issue. Anyone with half a brain cell can claim to be trans nowadays without having any dysphoria or trying to pass in any way. We have gendered bathrooms for a reason, And not to let any random ass person in. I wouldn’t be comfortable with a straight up woman in the man’s bathroom either.

OH AND by the way. I’m a trans man.

Passing is reliant on societal standards of what a man or woman “should” look like, and something which society puts significant pressure on trans people to achieve. Whether or not someone is a certain gender is irrelevant to passing—like you say it’s what they look like. My point isn’t that it’s stupid concept but that the standards to pass are arbitrary, subjective, and sexist.

[If a trans person, personally, wants to be readily recognised as their gender, that’s fine, but requiring people pass to go to the damn bathroom is not that.]

Yes, anyone can claim to be trans, but anyone can claim to be a million different things. Equally, they can pass as a gender they’re not with no greater difficulty than many trans people can pass as the gender they are. (And cis people might fail to pass as the gender they are!) Passing is superficial. It is not a measure that holds any value with respect to who someone is.
