you know, it would be in so much better faith, if as a fandom we can talk about the misogyny in the writers’ room and even further to executive decisions that don’t greenlight projects that center katara’s stories or stories in the swt but rather the male characters, instead of the bs half this fandom has going on
the bs being “this aang doesn’t support katara” bs
it’s like overstated and listed a million times all the ways aang supports katara in the show: actions, words, physical touch - but frankly none of that is really relevant to this post because the fact of the matter is, when it comes to actual content there is indeed a disparity in the content between the pair that tips more in aang’s favor than katara’s
and because of this, the amount of actual content of katara supporting aang indeed is higher because aang is the central character most of the time
but instead of coming to this rather sound and logical conclusion, there are certain people that would like to have you believe that this means aang would never ever support katara in the… 5 decades they are together, even though, again, this is not the precedent set in the original series, despite what the same certain people would like to have you believe.
the north and south comic run (after FOUR COMICS - THREE of which. three. 3. center zuko and the fire nation: the promise, the search, smoke and shadow. ONE which centers aang (and toph kinda); the rift) north and south is the FIRST post-canon content that focuses on katara and attempts to do some character study and swt exploration:
and what exactly did aang do in that comic?
well first of all, he isn’t even in the first part. but we do see him in katara’s flashbacks. when she is actively missing her boyfriend’s support in the face of extreme and harsh changes to her homeland because she saw him react the exact same way in the aforementioned ‘the rift’.
almost like she relies on him? but no that can’t be cuz i was told she’s actually his mother and that wouldn’t make sense
in the second part, aang arrives halfway through and immediately starts pampering, babying and physically supporting katara. for the rest of the run, he quite literally serves zero purpose outside of being katara’s boyfriend. he acts like a booktok boyfriend, has absolutely zero character development, is practically her sidekick when it comes to fights and verbally supports her as well.
does that sound familiar? hmm it’s almost like everything katara is accused of being reduced to her in her relationship with aang, whenever aang is the central character and she gives him support. so, it’s almost like when katara is the central character with an arc and a storyline, aang shows her support in all the ways katara does. and it’s almost like maybe we as a community should be pushing for more katara content, to decrease this disparity of content between the two main characters and championing for less content centering any male character (that’s not sokka cuz he quite literally has nothing ☠️)
i mean there is imbalance which i do consider to be the first actual group comic not only in terms of characterization but also focusing on all 4 characters (yes 4, not 5! thank ya) at a time and giving them a chance to shine. and would you look at that? katara and aang giving each support in the SAME RUN? it’s almost like this is possible when competent writers and people who appreciate the canon ship are at the helm and not a fckass zk shipper
it’s almost like, it’s almost like, it’s almost like
