Hello, I was just reading your Chang Gero Sonic concert report, and the term "kosan" came up a few times. I was wondering what that means? By extent I'm assuming it's about the NND generation of the early 2000s/2010? Also I just wanted to say thank you for your report! I haven't really been listening to utattemita much the past few years, I'm not really sure who/what is popular. It felt nostalgic to read about a lot of my fave utaite I grew up listening to performing live this year!
Hello! Thank you for reading through that monster of a report ahhh 😳 I’m glad you could enjoy hearing about all of them!
Kosan (古参)literally means “senior” so yes, in context of utaite fandom it’s the utaite who were there from the early days of NND (ie. their first uploads were made from 2007 to 2011). Almost all of the lineup of Chang Gero Sonic falls into this category with the exception of Araki and Alfakyun, if I’m not wrong!
Nostalgia aside, the kosans are very important because even though we didn’t realise it at the time, they were the ones building up the utaite culture on NND from scratch. Many of them eventually became role models and inspiration to the newer utaite, who started out as their fans!
Tbh, I’m surprised that you found my report at all haha. It’s honestly rare to find a kosan fan in the utaite tag here! And I know the feeling, I’d also not listened to utattemita in years, it was really CGS that brought me back this year!
Even now I’m still listening to the same utaite that I loved back then, so… in a sense, I think, some things never change, and I’m glad they’re still here for me to come back to!
And a lot of kosans and their collab units have been returning this year with new songs after prolonged absences too! PointFive, thalyosy, Asamack, Nodoame, Ryo-kun, just to name a few… It really feels like we’re back in the past and good old NND days of glory :’D
If you ever decide to spend some more time listening to them and want someone to yell at/talk to, feel free to hmu here or on Twitter! :D
