After the defeat of the Legion in Tanaan Jungle, I had assumed Thagrul was among the slain. I had not heard anything about him since he fled to Tanaan after my first encounter with him.Â
However, the Legion’s return to Azeroth brought with it news of an Orcish warlock matching Thagrul’s description. Gnorville utilized his foul demonic minions to learn if this Orc was indeed Thagrul. To my disappointment, he was. Knowing that Thagrul always seemed to have elaborate plans in motion, I brought news of his return to the organization I was employed by at the time; the Cryptic Tide.
We all agreed that something should be done to discover what Thagrul was doing on the Broken Isles. To that end, I asked the Illidari for help. I do not approve of what they have become, but their knowledge of the Legion and its members is undeniable. They told me of a lowly wyrmtongue demon, Urzax, who had recently tried to defect to their side; before he could join them, it was intercepted and captured by the Legion. Though near-bottom on the demonic hierarchy, they said wyrmtongues tend to overhear things from their masters.
With it as our only lead, we followed the Illidari’s advice and set out to rescue Urzax from the Legion’s clutches. The Demon Hunters’ last known idea of his location was aboard the dimensional ship Soulrender which hovered above Faronaar.Â
The Cryptic Tide and I ventured to the Illidari base camp they had carved out from the hellish landscape and set about our mission. The only way up to the Soulrender was via a portal on the ground not far from the camp. However, a powerful Mo’arg possessed the portal stone necessary to travel through it.Â
We tracked the Mo’arg to a cave and managed to overwhelm it, taking the stone and fighting back to the portal. With the stone, we were able to venture through and found ourselves aboard the eerily quiet Soulrender.Â
High above the main chamber we found ourselves in were a series of cages. Inside one of them was our quarry, Urzax. Unfortunately, there was also a demonic Jailer in the chamber who spotted us quickly. In additon, felguards began to march up from the lower reaches of the ship. The Tide split into three groups; two to fight the Felguards while the rest attacked the Jailer. After a fierce battle we managed to send the demons back to the Nether and rescued Urzax.Â
We planted a few bombs we had brought with us before departing; not enough to destroy the ship, but at least enough to cause some damage. After the charges were set, we parachuted off the ship as they exploded and returned to the Illidari camp. The Demon Hunters said we could have a couple of days to question the Wyrmtongue before they sent someone to collect him. I prayed to the Goddess that Urzax knew something...

Reflections Pt. 1 - First Encounter with Thagrul Hellbinder
The following is written in a fairly neat Darnassian script, bound within a small leather journal. The word ‘Reflections’ has been seared into its cover.
Clarwyn suggested I should write down the efforts we have been taking against Thagrul. Just in case something happens to us, someone else may find these writings and finish what we started. To that end, I have decided it would be best to begin with telling the story of how I first came face-to-face with Thagrul.
I first faced Thagrul in the lower spires of Blackrock Mountain. Ironically, he was not my target. Instead, myself and a fellow druid, Marthesarian, were seeking out a Doomguard named Vazruulon. Many years ago, Vazruulon slew my fiancee during the Battle of Mt. Hyjal. I wrongly blamed Marthesarian for her death, and this was a chance to set aside our longstanding hatred and start anew as well as an opportunity for me to get vengeance.Â
My Gnomish friend Gnorville had discovered that Vazruulon was aiding Thagrul in corrupting the few remaining Black Dragonspawn inside the mountain with fel magic. Thagrul had been sent undercover by Gul’dan within the Ironmarch Expedition to help create a Vanguard force to herald in the Legion’s arrival after their success on Draenor. After arriving at Blackrock Mountain, Thagrul slipped away to the lower reaches of the spire and began his work.
It was a difficult fight past the corrupted dragonspawn and demonic servitors Thagrul had summoned, but eventually Marthesarian and I were victorious in hunting down Vazruulon with help from some of Gnorville’s gadgets. We managed to combine our fury to slay the demon, but Thagrul slipped away via portal to Tanaan Jungle, taking with him a powerful device created by Gnorville to aid us in our endeavor; the Fel Containment Unit. More will be written about this device in later entries.
Little did I know that this was but the beginning of what has now become a long and arduous campaign against Thagrul’s ambition and evil... My next entry will be soon.
