Eons later, after Functionism was established by False Primes, Orion Pax met D-16 — who later became Megatronus, the Champion of Kaon. They caught a NewSpark, the same one caught by the Primes they echo. Unfortunately, this NewSpark was returned to the Well of Sparks — again — when Orion was chosen by the Matrix as the first Prime since the original Thirteen. The Senate had fed Orion a lie, telling him the Matrix would absorb the NewSpark.

With no other options and Spark-broken, Orion returned the NewSpark, knowing it would statistically never be caught by them again, but at least it would be safe.

Megatron, now stripped of the last glyphs of his designation to represent banishment, was told another lie: Orion had snuffed their NewSpark to sever all ties with "a disposable". Now that Orion would become a Prime, he couldn't afford to be seen with the likes of a drone, much less the product of their bond.

What happened next: Megatron declared war against the Senate and all who stood by them. To his once-Sparkmate, he swore Optimus Prime would perish, impaled on Megatron's sword.
