What if gestalts gain physical traits from other members of the gestalt after joining?
Like not alt-modes, but like their paint changes to match better- or perhaps they gain or lose height. Maybe even additional kibble.

Okay, since you mentioned Onslaught mentoring Motormaster (which. Yes.), what is Motormaster's opinion on that? How long did it take for Motors to finally accept learning from Onslaught, and did he come to care deeply for Onslaught?

I feel like I kinda have to backtrack in order to answer this ask and also talk about how the stuff with the Stunticons is and Motormasters relationship with Megatron, since it influences him as a character a lot (also I am not the best of giving a straight answer lmao)
SO
I mean we got the typical Megatron created the Stunticons as a weapon of war situation and after some time lost interest in them& they started to get troublesome
They were loud and created a lot of chaos, so he assigned someone to look after them and teach them at least to some degree how to behave (I mean as their creator it technically would've been his responsibility, but responsible& Megatron... ehhhhh doesn't really go hand in hand)
So he picked someone he knew he could.. well I wouldn't say trust, more like someone we knew wouldn't betray him (given the loyalty coding): Onslaught
He knows Onslaught is bound to listen to his commands and can't outright speak against Megatron, so he has the reassurance that Ons won't try to influence Motormaster against him
He was placed to watch over Motors specifically, since he is the leader of our favourite car group and thus is seen as the one who 'fails', when his team steps out of line.
So, how'd Motors react to the news?
He agreed because it was something his leader commanded (and his leader is always right, right?) but on the inside he was very much against it.
He? Needing help? With what?? He's an amazing fighter AND gestalt leader. He doesn't need somebody looking over his shoulder and judge him. He's great!!
So at the start he was being a littleeee petty and stubborn. I could imagine Onslaught wasn't the happiest at first either, because did he really need the extra work of mentoring a youngling? He never saw himself quite as a mentor either and the Stunticons well.. had their reputation
But he VERY soon realized the stuff, that was up with Motors and why he acts this way
I believe Motors admires Megatron a lot, like idolises him even.
To him he's a perfect leader, strong and undefeatable on the battlefield. Someone who takes command and who is respected by everyone.
He strives to be that, this powerful fighter he believes Megatron is.
The thing is Motormatser is young, so if he sees someone strong, in the physical sense, that's immediately someone great to him
Now obviously, that's not all what being a leader is about. And Megatron isn't the best at the other stuff. I do believe he's a caple, dangerous and cunning fighter but commanding these giant troops?
Not so much his style. (He's too prideful to admit that though)
So, the situation we have at hand now, is Motors trying so, so hard to impress Megatron. By acting just like him (all his negative traits included which obviously causes issues with his gestalt) and training himself to the point of exhaustion, in order to prove himself.
Now here comes Ons who, as stated before, soon realized this and goes "Oh. Oh NO." and tries his best to be there for Motors.
He's teaching him general fighting stuff, tries to hammer into Motors head how important strategy is (which isn't easy) and watches over him, so that he doesn't overwork himself. And while he can't really tell Motors that Megatron sucks (again cause of the coding) he does try to nudge him into the direction of realizing that Megatron is... Not THAAAT good of a leader actually
That however is a very hard pill for Motors to swallow, along with the fact that Megatron basically does not care about him and his brothers. Down the road he probably does but that takes a whileee
In that time Ons is always there for him. Yeah, at the start Motors was definitely extremely grumpy about the fact, he had to be mentored but, surprisingly to him, the stuff Ons teaches him works. And he's there for Motors, if he asks questions AND doesn't yell at him for messing up, which... is nice
He slowly gains the realisation that Ons is actively trying to be there for him. And deep down that makes him very happy
So I feel like subconsciously he really starts to trust Onslaught, which shows in him being more relaxed around him, listening to his commands (insane!!) etc.
So yeah, he does learn to care about him *cough* and see him as a father figure *cough*
Maybeee if you wanna add some drama at some point he learns about the coup Onslaught& the Combaticons committed
And he really doesn't know how to feel about that, again because he believes Megatron to be the perfect leader...
But yeah he definitely cares about him and Ons cares back, they might not openly mention it but it's very obvious and they have their own little language
As to the Scrapper part of the questions: I feel like both the Combaticons and Constructicons in general look over the Stuntis.. they're, as you said "wild youngsters", so all help is needed lmao
But I do think Scrapper specifically helps Ons with Motormaster. Given he's also a gestalt leader and... closeeee to Onslaught *wink wink*.
He'd be there if either of them needed someone to talk to
I am about 30% into He Who Drowned the World (spouse and I are reading it together which means I will be getting through it MUCH slower than usual), and it has been so utterly delightful. The interactions between Zhu and Ouyang are so incredibly delightful. Spouse and I are cracking up. Ouyang is just so... well, we're having a good time. I'll say that. XD
I loooove what Parker-Chan is doing with Wang Baoxiang. Meeting him through the eyes of Ouyang and Esen, they really tried to convince us that he's a pathetic and unlikeable character, but no actually, he made really good points and sometimes was so much more effective than his brother and general for being underestimated as he was. I knew he couldn't really be as awful as Esen and Ouyang thought of him, but I did NOT expect him to be such a bigger character in this book but am utterly delighted at where they could go with him.
So, so delightful. It's hard going so slow to see where this is all going, but it's so fun to listen with Empty.
I don't want to look up names using the second book's title, so I'm going to guess it's Madam Zhang that we're seeing more of too in this book, and she is fascinating. I have a feeling those posters were put up by General Chen and what an adversary he'll be for her. I would love to see her and Zhou become allies, but I can't really fathom how that could happen at this point. Alas.
