Few weeks ago, I watched Transformers One in Japanese dub. Whoever hired these voice actors did a good job because they all fit the characters. Elita One and Airachnid sounds so badass (all though they already sounded badass in the original one). D-16’s voice actor often does voice for bully characters, and it lowkey fits him so well. Orion Pax’s voice actor is same as Gojo, I didn’t recognize this at first because he sounds different from the other characters that this voice actor does. But it definitely fits him. Same as Bumblebee, he sounds so energetic. Soundwave and Starscream sounds similar to the original one. Also Sentinel Prime’s voice matches him so well. I find it funny that he also did Laurent from Great Pretender (French con man). Lastly, Shockwave. I definitely like his voice more in Japanese sub (although he doesn’t have that much line in the first place). Like I fucking love the fact that when he was irritated at Bumblebee, his voice cracked for one second. That’s so funny, and it shows how much he is pissed. Also in the scene where Shockwave is saying “I’m going to follow you” after Elita One cracks her knuckles, he uses formal tense which I thought was nice. Only issue I had was that some phrases don’t translate well into Japanese. For example, ‘till all are one just translates to something like uniting the universe together which lowkey sounds lame. Also rise up literally just translates to stand so when Megatron and his followers were chanting, they were just saying stand multiple times 😭 But overall I prefer Japanese sub over the original (although I’m biased because I’m Japanese).
