Boa: Iām sorry for not really talking with you guys after everything happened, and Iām sorry for being relatively absent but are you doing okay after everything thatās happened?
Pyro: I mean, the way I see it, how many people are truly doing okay here? [laughs]Ā Of us, you know? Maybe weāre all going through our own struggles here, we were all going through our own struggles before we even got here.
Boa: [overlapping] Yeahā¦
Pyro: You know, all things considered Iām doing quite well. I mean, I still have a pulse. All limbs still attached.
[boa laughs]
Pyro: My mind is in one piece, they didnāt shatter my resolve. Iām not a rebel sympathiser. If anything Iām still, you know, I donāt know how youād describe my ideology [laughs] What, a draconic supremacist? Iām not sure. Whatever is best for us as riders.
Boa: [laughs] Yeah. I mean, I feel like youāve got the right attitude. I was just, I guess- Based on what you guys have been through between you and Maddy, and frankly I havenāt had the opportunity to even speak with her which I also feel terrible about, I just- I know itās easy to just keep moving with- with whatās happening and things are happening so quickly, and I just donāt want you to feel like youāre [sighs] not allowed to sit with your feelings and understand that what you went through was not okay. I know they didnāt necessarily hurt you, butā¦ we were worried. We were- [breathless] I was so worried for you guys.
Pyro: Yeah, we appreciate it. Look, I mean Iām- I canāt say Iām taking it too personally. Really we wereā¦ prisoners of war.
Boa: Yeah.
Pyro: I mean, it didnāt feel great to be reduced down to a bargaining chip but it did feel pretty great when we managed to break our chains.
Boa: Yeah, [laughs] That was pretty awesome. I uh, sorry I wasnāt necessarily, you know, a knight in shining armour but um,
Pyro: No, no, you came along for the party. You gave them enough- you drew them away from the cage long enough for us to wiggle out and join the fray.
Boa: [laughs] Yeah. You guys did such a wonderful job. [stutters] Sorry to keep praising, Iām just like- I wanna be as good a fighter as you guys. It seemed that even though you were trapped in that cell for so long, you were immediately like, [sighs] You were ready to go.
Pyro: Have you been training? Have you been honing your skills and your magic?
Boa: Iāve beenā¦ To be honest, no. I- I really should. Um.
Pyro: You really should!
Boa: I- Yeah. I- I- Um, Iām mildly concerned that Iām not entirely prepared for what lies ahead, but I mean- [sighs] With everyone around us I feel like, you know! Youāre strong! Youāre brave, and so many others are the same. I feel like you guys will just, you know, their positive traits will rub off on me [laughs] and Iāll um, Iāll adapt.
Pyro: I donātā¦ I donāt know if the- I understand that bravery of some can inspire, you know, heroic spirit in others ā but I donāt know if our magic and physical strength will radiate. And Iām not saying you need to, you know, go to the training room and lift some weights up and down for hours each day. But just understanding your own magic thatāsā¦ I mean, we all have it now. We have a dragon, weāve got magic at our fingertips.
Boa: Thatās true. I- [sighs] I will ask, because youāve been doing so much training have you found that um, reading books and studying- like literally hitting the books is just as effective to gain skill? Cause I- thatās my bread and butter, like I am quite the bookworm. So, I mean, I could spend some time studying in the library and things but yeah, hands on? That ones a bit of a question mark for me.
Pyro: I feel like youāve done enough of that. I feel like thereās a worrying trend Iāve noticed of, you know, folks ā they get their hands on eventually, but never willingly. Often times the violence comes to them before theyāre prepared and fortunately in most cases theyāve managed to pull through, but you know, Iād feel terrible just, you know, nodding along and letting you go around as just a case of what if something bad happens. And just being able to be like āEh itās fine.ā
Boa: Yeahā¦ I guess so. Well, if you had to pick a weapon, like what would you say that your specialty is? Of course your fire magic is an impressive offensive ability but what would you say your weapon of choice would be? If you were to potentially train people in that weaponā¦?
Pyro: I mean, for youā¦ Hm. Thereās not many things easier than a crossbow.
Boa: [boa stutters then laughs] A crossbow? You think I could wield a crossbow?
Pyro: [overlapping] Aye, I mean if you- Itās just point it and pull the trigger. I mean, as long as its oiled, and thereās a nice wool string, and a nice wooden base then,
Boa: [overlapping] But thereās like, all the mechanisms and things and I just- oh- I mean I guess- uh, yeahā¦ I guess I could-
Pyro: Itās far easier than swinging a sword or lugging an axe, or gods forbid a mace.
Boa: Thatās- Thatās true. I mean, those things all do sound quite heavy if Iām being honest.
Pyro: I mean thereās small crossbows.
Boa: Yeah, what about a bow? Do you think a bow might beā¦? Might be a good option for me?
Pyro: A bow? [sighs] I mean, you could- I mean, have you- have you trained?
Boa: [stutters] Uh, no. No, not really. Um,
Pyro: Oh. Itās not too difficult to pick up.
Boa: I mean, day one I did attempt to- to use a bow, and I think Iāve used it once or twice after um, but my aimās not that great. I need a- I need to get better aim.
Pyro: Right. Right, well,

Pyro: Yeah, I mean, look a bow if you can handle it, but a crossbow is always what I would recommend.
Boa: Right, okay. Would you say theyāre more accurate?
Pyro: A crossbow?
Boa: Or is there like a- yeah. Like the difference between a crossbow and a bow.
Pyro: Itās just easy to aim, for a beginner.
Boa: Okay!
Pyro: All you need is the strength to pull it back and youāre fine.
Boa: I think I could do that!
Pyro: Certainly!
Boa: Yeah.
Pyro: No, but I cannot recommend a weapon more potent and easily accessible to you than whatever magic dwells inside of you.
Boa: Yeah, true. I mean- I mean there are some very impressive abilitiesā¦ yeahā¦
Pyro: [overlapping] Even if you donāt wanna face it you still have the potential. We all do. And whether we realise it or not, or-
Boa: Yeah.
Pyro: What, are you- Are you afraid?
Boa: ā¦No. No, thatāsā¦ No. Iā¦ Iām just weak, and I- I um, yeah. I just donāt trust myself to keep up with you guys. Um. I donāt know. I think itās a bit of a self sabotage thing. I uh, Iāve been staying indoors and then not really training cause I kind of feel like whatās the point. Because Iām not ever going to be good enough anywayā¦ But- but I mean, when I look at you guys I just- It just makes me feel like I could do something and- and help. And not freeze up the way I have.
Pyro: Well, you didnāt freeze up when you ran headfirst into the rebel encampment. Something stirred within you then.
Boa: [overlapping] Yeah.
Pyro: Everyone who claims to be, or in some cases appears to be too weak had found themselves in a moment where theyā¦ something inside them stirs. It could be the magic driving them forward or maybe itās just everyones, you know, desire to protect our fellow riders.
Boa: Yeah.
Pyro: Because this is a crazy world, and we couldnāt have wished to live in more interesting times. These dragons ā this opportunity, we will never have a family like thisā¦ No-one ever will in all of time. This is special. This is unique. I think you just- itās just a case of embracing it.
Boa: Yeahā¦ It is kind of- I donāt know. I just like, I never ever pictured this for myself. I donāt know, Iām sure when you grow up- or when you when you were young, did you ever imagine that you would be in this sort of position?
Pyro: Would you think less of me if I said that I did. Not this position, but I donāt know. I just wanted to find myself in the centre of it all. And here we are.
Boa: Yeah, well I- I think- I think you definitely made the right decision coming then.
Pyro: Oh, wellā¦
Boa: We kind of need you.
Pyro: I try to be there when I can. But uh, yeah. I just wanted to uh- Just wanted to get a story that I could pass on. Something to be remembered by.
Boa: A legacy?
Pyro: [uncertain noise] Something more simple than that. Just a narrative.
Boa: Interesting.
Pyro: Something that all of my descendants to follow and their descendants would be able to sit around a fire and tell a story.
Boa: Yeah.
Pyro: Something grand. Something they could be proud of. Something they could aspire to.
Boa: Yeahā¦ That is quite the motivation.
Pyro: Well, in order to tell that story weāre going to have to use everything we can to make it out.
Boa: Yeah. I mean, I- I can feel that Reina is getting stronger, bit by bit. And Iām sure at some point they will start to grow a little more. I mean, Iāve seen- Iāve swear, I could swear to you they are marginally bigger than they were when we first got here.
Pyro: [overlapping] They are growing. Yeah, youāre dead right. Itās all but confirmed.
Boa: Itās only a matter of time.
Pyro: Only a matter of time.
Boa: I kind of- I do kind of feel a bit safe in this little bubble weāve created in the Academy. I mean, safe is a strong word to say the least with everything thatās happened, but I just donāt know if Iām ready toā¦ I donāt know. Like, itās not over yet, but I- I just, yeah. I canāt be here forever.
Pyro: I will say Vulpes of all the dorms has been fortunately tucked away from all of the chaos of doppelgangers and whatnot.
Boa: Yeah.
Pyro: We run a pretty tight ship here!
Boa: Thatās very true. We do.
Pyro: Yeah.
Boa: I hope the- the friendships weāve made here like, last lifetimes really.
Pyro: Me too. Some people they push buttons a bit, but you know. Iām sure theyāll be ironed out.
Boa: Yeah, a little bit. Thatās one way to put it.

Boa: Thank you.
Pyro: Itās a dangerous world and- of course. My dorm is always there should the need arise to chat. I mean thereās- youāve got a fine neighbour and uh- whoās here? And a fine map maker!
Boa: [laughs] True! True.
Pyro: Very well.
Boa: I really should be using everyone.
Pyro: Of course.
Boa: Alright, well um, thank you for the lessons again. Iāll see you around.
Pyro: Of course! Of course.
Boa: Take care. And donāt get kidnapped again!
Pyro: Iāll try my best. I cant make any promises.
Boa: [laughs] Alright. See you!
