Watch this 'Texas Switch' special effect in Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent from 1940. The manikin dropping on wires is....something else. Particularly when weighed against all the otherwise outstanding matte and miniature effects already depicted in the film. It’s interesting that audiences accepted the limitations of film making because what happened was in service of the story and that may have been more important, over all, than how it looked.
