People do not give Skyrim's designs enough credit, while the centurions do look a little bit steampunk which is a look too but. I think they're so clever and I do not do them justice. If I were to break down the design for the centurion I just get stuck at the helmet alone. It is all these little details, design choices that makes you see different things dependent on perspective literally, visually. They also serve a storytelling purposes as many objects are from these centurions. It gives 'dwarf', 'nordic' yet is so typical dwemer. Dwemer are meant to be this highly advanced species, there's sources that say this and that but...
Personal headcannon is to me they were somewhat cruel and detached as they became more technological. They were also prideful with the way they challenged the gods, and the daedra like Azura. A very terrifying race that left a lot after them as they dissapeared. As one considers the design one can see into the mind of the one who created it, the person's ideals and its society. Just the placement of the head alone is interesting. It is prideful to me. Because it is somewhat encapsulated in this mock idea of a helmet or beard depending on how you look at it. The way it also looks so authoritarian, like some wise old soldier yet it possesses crude looking technological weapons as hands that are different as you wonder which one it might use. It just plays with the imagination!
If we look at our own species, one can only wonder how long we stay before we dissapear, a question I ponder is that we might just only know what happened to the dwemer once we know what happens to us. Anyway, thought I give my input into these maybe I appreciate it so much more because I felt it was what was got a bit lost in the remastered version of oblivion. Because there are all these little intentions - intentions made intentionally or not - that just gets lost from previous art and concept imo.
