i frequently wonder about what exactly went through handel’s head as he was composing silla. rushed endings, i’ve noticed, are present in almost all of his operas, but for the entire opera to be at that pace is…
also the fact that silla was immediately preceded by teseo ( which i have yet to listen to, but i’ll take the 5-act structure as a sign ) and followed up with amadigi ( which i have listened to, and overall doesn’t have the problems i saw in silla, or at least those issues weren’t as egregious ) is something that baffles me, somehow.
