#terrain replacement

TERRAINS REPLACEMENT : SOME NEWS !

Sorry for the pictures quality : since the july 31 patch, when i use the photography tool, whatever quality level i choose, i get a poor and low quality :/ Going to repair my game ;)

OK ... Related to terrains replacements : we are almost ok. We noticed Maxis does not use the same overlays in Spring and Autumn depending the worlds. The grass looks better in Willow Creek and New Crest than in Brindleton Bay and Brindleton Bay looks better in Spring than Windenburg ........

So ... We have removed all the few doubles between K505 Terrains and 44 Floorpaints :)

Then we have re-worked every floor paint replacement and resized them to 512x512 pixels. Then we have added the few files we found related to Seasons.

We think we have solved the bug in the business district of San Myshuno ( not super sure anyway since we haven’t found all the files used by Seasons )

We are still searching for the overlays used in Spring and Autumn in Windenburg and Brindleton Bay ( and Forgotten Hollow )

AND WHAT’S NEXT ?

We are currently updating Brindleton Bay files and everything urban related to street sides because we found new street sides with autumn tone colors :)

I've gone and done a something... O_O

It's pretty wild, isn't it? I've had mzcynnamon's terrain replacement (that super-desirable one you know, that I've answered WCIF's for over 9000 times, haha <3 OH ALL OF YOU.) for... years now, literally. Wow.

Generally I'm pretty opposed to radical changes - whenever Tumblr tweaks the dashboard layout I feel like my whole world is crumbling down around me - but spur-of-the-moment got the best of me and I decided to give a new (new to me, that is - it's not new... you know... to the earth) terrain replacement a try.

My new default terrain replacements (plural this time, there's replacements for more than just the grass terrain O_O I might have to actually make a 'hood on a different base now.) are by CuriousB, they can be fund HERE, for anyone that's interested.

So far I really like them, and I think the main reason is that the transition between lot and 'hood is much, much smoother in CuriousB's - it's almost seamless; that was one of the things I definitely think (thought? :o) is overlookable in mzcynnamon's ones though - but it does get a little annoying. I also really love how the texture of the whole thing seems to be higher quality; it's not as pixelated when you zoom in really close in the neighborhood view. A little down side is that it isn't quite as green my old replacement: I really liked that about it, but I'm thinking the other upsides of CuriousB's outweigh that. I also decided in the end to go all in and get the road replacements as well, and I debated that internally for the longest time... I love maxis match-ing, but I am a little sick of the yellow-ish sidewalks... I might switch between using the replacement and using the EAxis default in the future. I've always liked this terrain replacement and I can't understand why more people don't use it, to be honest... I regret not giving in and getting it sooner, actually - I can even remember the first time I saw it, I was intimidated by the instructions and stuff so I didn't dare to venture into it - turns out that was silly of me! Oh hindsight! Better late than never I suppose though.
