This termite nest was seen at Mistico Hanging Bridges Park near La Fortuna in north-central Costa Rica.

Termites Found in a roof void during a building and pest inspection in Greenbank today..This Home had a physical termite barrier installed during construction but the termites had breached over this system and got into this home..We found active termites tracking along the carpet smooth edge in the living area and 3 bedrooms..The timber smooth edge makes for a great termite highway..So they have tracked up into the roof void where it’s nice and hot and humid which is ideal conditions for a termite nest..As you can see in the video all the roof timbers are treated which is supposed to be termite resistant and guess what folks the termites don’t care at all..This home is only a few years old and you wouldn’t normally expect a termite attack on a new home, but they had gardens with mulch next to the house wall which makes for conditions that attract termites..The mulch retains moisture which is probably the number one thing termites look for and you are supplying a food source with the mulch and foliage..So mr termite says thanks for the smorgasbord .This is very important to keep your house free of any moisture.Fix leaking taps, gutters, down pipes and make sure your air conditioner and hot water service over flows are connected to the drainage system. Other moisture sources like Water Tanks and pumps, keep them maintained and make sure the overflow is connected to the drainage.
