Teo Macero – Acoustical Suspension (Full Album)
“Teo Macero, best known as a producer, has only recorded as a tenor-saxophonist on a very infrequent basis through the decades. This unusual album has four very different groups performing Macero’s originals. Vibraphonist Lionel Hampton and tenor-saxophonist Gato Barbieri (an odd couple) are heard on five numbers along with a saxophone section, two keyboards, two guitars and a rhythm section. “Summer Rain” matches together flutist Dave Valentin and soprano-saxpohonist Dave Liebman while “Silent Summer” is a piano duet for Mike Nock and Mal Waldron. Macero only pops up on one number, teaming up with Liebman, altoist Carlos Ward, bassist Cecil McBee and Orlando Digirolamo on accordian; quite a quintet. In general the writing is not as strong as the solos but this somewhat eccentric album certainly stands out in the crowd.” – Scott Yanow/AllMusic.

THE FORGOTTEN MAN: TEO MACERO AND BITCHES BREW
There is so much to hear in this music, Miles Davis’s Bitches Brew album.
Each side comes to an end, but the music never seems to conclude. There’s only so much information that a physical recording medium can hold. But the durational restrictions of a vinyl LP were less important for Bitches Brew than the design and intention of Miles’s music making. The music on the album doesn’t conclude because it doesn’t formally resolve, and Miles didn’t want it to resolve... READ MORE ....

[In 1957] Edgard Varèse conducted a workshop with jazzmen Art Farmer (trumpet), Hal McKusik (clarinet, alto sax), Teo Macero (tenor sax), Eddie Bert (trombone), Frank Rehak (trombone), Don Butterfield (tuba), Hall Overton (piano), Charlie Mingus (bass), Ed Shaughnessy (drums), probably John La Porta (alto sax)...
It might be the first free jazz recording (totally unissued) of History of Music. Varèse might have influenced jazzmen or was he only aware of what was happening on the jazz scene? No matter of the answer, it's a bomb, as this music is 3 years earlier than Free Jazz by Ornette Coleman!
