Lorenzo Morresi & Le Isole -Ā Pop Flop - Morresiās albums are like master classes in neo-library music composition & production
In March 2022 Lorenzo and Luciano started pre-producing āPop Flopā at Schema Records headquarters in Milan. Part of the album has also been produced at āMuseo Del Synth Marchigiano & Italianoā, an incredible collection of rare Italian vintage synthesizers located in Le Marche region where Lorenzo was born. These Italian synthesizers (manufacturers such as Farfisa, Crumar and Elka) were very popular in the 1970s for library music and soundtracks, and they were also used outside of Italy by the likes of John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin, Keith Emerson, Jean-Michel Jarre and Ray Manzarek from the Doors. As Morresi himself explains, āI tried as a form of respect and love to avoid an album that simply imitates those fifty year old masterpieces, so my idea has been to add contemporary musical elements and genres together with modern production techniques to create something originalā. Pop Flop has a warm, cinematic and philological feel; well balanced between tradition and innovation, fusing elements of funk, classical, acid jazz, afrobeat, trip hop - to name a few - and all whilst paying homage to those fantastic years. The song titles sound like weāve been transported back to 1972 in a time machine: āOdeon," "Slalom," "Savana Urbana", "Beta Eroticaā, āAllegro Funerario," "Rio De Janeiro Filter," and so on.Ā We are sure that masters like Umiliani, Tommasi and Brugnolini will be pleased with the end result and will undoubtedly be smiling down from the sky. -- Stefano Gilardino

Lorenzo Morresi & Tenderlonious - new album inspired by classic Italian jazz-funk and library music!
In the late 1960s and early 1970s Italian soundtrack and library music went through its most experimental, prolific and dazzling period having a strong radio presence in both Europe and the US. Musicians and composers such as Piero Umiliani, Amleto Armando Roelens and even Ennio Morricone - with his side project Gruppo Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza lead by Franco Evangelisti - were regularly experimenting with idiosyncratic combinations of jazz, electronic, progressive, disco, funk and psych genres. Some of their output from this period was wonderfully joyful, atmospheric, ironic and erotic, with itās treasures only now being discovered by the most dedicated of diggers and enthusiasts. It was their mutual love of these 60s and 70s soundtracks that brought Lorenzo Morresi and Tenderlonious together. After performing alongside each other at a festival in Italy back in 2017 they quickly bonded over a shared love of Jay Richford and Gary Stevenās album āFeelingsā - which, in reality, is the Italian duo Brugnolini and Torossi - as they both owned the Schema repressed vinyl version. The idea was quickly conceived to put together a fresh take starting with that early 1970s Italian style, using contemporary analogue inspired arrangements combined with experimental and joyful 'tongue-in-cheek' sounds that could work on the dance floor as well as at home. The album is mainly in the territories of Italo jazz funk and the aforementioned Italian library sound. Some tracks like āNuda Sorgenteā, āDoppio Sognoā and āEstateā are also club oriented with a musical crossover from old-to-new. āEstateā is a cover from the classic jazz standard by Italian singer Bruno Martino. "With this project weāve done our best to deliver our own interpretation of this wonderful era of Italian music and rediscover a beautiful genre, whilst maintaining a strong respect and admiration for the sounds that those original Italian masters created. Their records impressed and inspired us and we hope it will be the same for our listeners today." Here's our second premiere of the week, another superb reimagining of a classic. DJ, producer and musician Lorenzo Morresi, alongside 22a label boss, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Tenderlonious, take on Bruno Martino's classic jazz standard, 'Estate'.

2020 | Tenderlonious - The Piccolo - Tender Plays Tubby Jazz Detective Records EP | Limited Edition #tenderlonious #jazzdetectiverecords @jazz_detective_records https://www.instagram.com/the_vinyl_digest/p/CYZqJ3usdu3/?utm_medium=tumblr
Tenderlonious - still flute - jeez he keeps busy! Hereās a new album of mostly house grooves, with forays into raga & ambient
Tenderlonious has proven himself to be one of the most versatile and uninhibited artists in music today, blending genres and multi-instrumentation with style and ease. Whether it be jazz fusion with his band Ruby Rushton, Hindustani classical with Pakistani quartet Jaubi or deep house, electro funk and ambient electronica in his solo studio productions, he has accumulated a back catalogue of releases and collaborations that unveil a musician who is continuously striving to evolve and push the boundaries of sound. His new album āStill Fluteā, set for release in October this year, continues with that notion, combining his signature live flute and synth work over deep house, p-funk, spiritual ragas and ambient sound designs. There are four deep house jams, including āSong for My Motherā and title track āStill Fluteā, all embellished with energetic flute solos. āIsaacās Themeā and āNeptuneās Moodā add the downbeat p-funk mood, while āSeti Kholaā is a deeply spiritual Hindustani raga. āJourney to Thraā and āEnd Transmissionā add the ambient palette to another phenomenal record from Tenderlonious and the 22a camp.
Ruby Rushton - Gideon's Way EP - the pandemic has not slowed down Tenderlonious at all
Ruby Rushton return to 22a with a four track album teaser combining a fusion of sounds from across the jazz spectrum in their own distinctive style. The band have forged an instantly recognisable sound since their debut release āTwo For Joyā back in 2015, hitting the sweet spot by simultaneously sounding classic and forward-thinking. The EP is fronted by virtuosic flute from bandleader Ed āTenderloniousā Cawthorne and soulful trumpet by Nick Walters, who combine with tight catchy leads and fierce solo work. Aidan Shepherd underpins the operation with slick synth and key work whilst Tim Carnegie delivers a suite of tight knit drum breaks. āGideonās Wayā leaves the door ajar for the fifth Ruby Rushton album, scheduled for release later this year.
