A collection of photos from our recent projects. We designed shapes on the computer then cut them on the Brother ScanNCut. This was followed by more design work for silkscreen printing of the imagery with constructing the final product at the end.
Thinking back to that time I really thought that a 23 hour dip in acid couldn’t possibly enhance a sharpie drawing of butts on my copper plate. Hands down the best plate of the semester #copperplate #copperetching #art #ten09print #happyaccident #bigassbutts https://www.instagram.com/p/BrTtR2oAiZ2/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=raudc0hgmip4
Thoughts on preparing your paper for making art. Use a good paper for silk screen printing like Arches 88 - smooth, vellum surface, good absorption of ink. Use a “pencil” to make light measurement marks and then carefully “tear” the paper using a tear bar to maintain a nice deckle.
Registration is key to making an edition when printing CMYK process - tape your metal pins to a counter, place your registration tabs “adhesive side up” and place your paper onto the tabs. Ensure that the paper is level. Remove the “First Sheet” from the pins and turn over and re-pin. Center your next sheet “Face Down” onto the first sheet. Place your tabs adhesive side down matching the position of the tabs on the first sheet. Remove 2nd paper and repeat for the rest of your edition lining each up over the first sheet of paper.
For a small 8X10 silk screen CMYK print a single 230 mesh screen can fit each of your color separations. To keep other parts of your screen in between printing colors, freezer paper can be used to cover the stencil openings. Packing tape is used to seal the edges around the inside of the frame and to cover any pin holes or registration marks.

Some essential items for preparing to print and clean-up. This is not everything you need - but is a good start for getting the printing completed.
