Drifting with the Tide
The gallery was packed, the party in full swing. I stood off to one side with Rafayel, both of us watching Thomas speak to the guests, showing off Rafayelâs newest pieces.
âWhy do you never show off your own work?â I asked him.
âDonât you think thatâs tacky? Why would I have a manager if he didnât do manger-y things for me?â
âI guess?â
âBesides, Thomas will come up with more marketable concepts,â Rafayel sighed. âIt doesnât matter if they arenât accurate. Most people donât care about the artistâs vision anyway. They canât see beyond the composition and colors.â
âIâm sure some would appreciate it,â I coaxed. âCome on, why donât you try it for tonight?â
âI already came here, didnât I? Isnât that enough for you?â Rafayel sipped at a glass of sparkling wine and tugged at his collar for the umpteenth time that night. âUgh, isnât it hot in here?â

Febuwhump Day 21: Put On Display
Countless unwelcome eyes on him, oohing, ahhing, ogling. Leonardo the Little Green Earthling was a brand new exhibit without a case, rope barrier or âKeep Offâ sign.
Some extraterrestrial visitors leaned disconcertingly into his face, their exhales of the semi-toxic atmosphere stinging. Others prodded roughly at his polished plastron, trying to provoke a reaction. As much as he burned to lash out, alien paralytics kept him pliantly propped in the wall mounts. He could only stare stonily back until they withdrew, giving him a chance to scan the crowd yet again for any sign of his family, of rescue, freedom.
hey, you have any tips temporary fnd paralysis (specifically legs but js in general)
Hi Iâm so sorry Iâm only getting round to this (honestly never expected to get any asks ever this is super awesome!)
Tips for ending a bout of paralysis:
1. Ignore it. Oftentimes the more you focus on it the longer youâre going to draw it out. Try to immerse yourself in something else like a tv show or drawing or a puzzle.
2. Interval wiggling. Every now and then have a little wiggle, it could be a big wiggle such as all the body parts that arenât paralysed or you could see if you can send that signal to the paralysed part. Animals do that shake when they come out of a shock and it basically resets them and shakes off that weird energy feeling you get. It might not work right away, but it tells your body itâs okay to move, so keep at it, just make sure you have breaks in between.
3. Intermittent signals. Send the move signal to the smallest part of the body part that is paralysed (toes for legs, fingers for arms). Focus on one part at a time tell it to move a little bit, itâs hard so donât expect it to reach there right away, but visualise (if you can) that signal coming out of your brain into your spine and down to the paralysed part, imagine it getting closer to its destination each time you send it. Again; have breaks in between.
4. Baby pinches. You know that stereotypical grandma pinching the babyâs cheek? Do that to your paralysed part, be gentle! The idea here is to remind yourself itâs not really paralysed, itâs just having a nap. Play around with the sensations on your skin, remind yourself that this body part is connected to you, it is still yours. Tapping and stroking works here too, find what suits you.
5. Move it with something else. This one gives me the heebie geebies because itâs like putting your foot flat on the ground with pins and needles to me, but it can be whatâs needed. Use the rest of your body to bend the joints of the paralysed part individually (one finger at a time, one knee, etc) this helps remind your brain that your joints and muscles arenât stuck and it helps keep blood flowing.
7. Keep it warm. Not moving body parts will make them much colder than the rest of you and cold muscles donât work even when theyâre not paralysed, so keep blankets/jumpers/fluffy socks nearby. Many times I have worn a jumper by only having one paralysed arm in the hole and the rest of my body outside of it.
8. Forgive yourself. Itâs hard and uncomfortable and you want it to go away fast, but dang why wonât it go away?!? Itâs happening. You canât get out of it fast, but you can breathe and get through it, it will pass in the end - keep reminding yourself that it will pass and you can get through it. Paralysis is the brain finding a way to deal with whatever stress it is currently trying to handle, your body needs this moment to heal so forgive it and allow it the moment itâs asking for! These steps will help, but ultimately itâs your brainâs decision, you just need to help it (and you) feel safe while it has its moment.
I know it can be uncomfortable and scary to feel like your body isnât working or doesnât belong to you, but it is working and it does still belong to you, itâs just a little stressed and confused, treat it like youâd treat a pet in a thunderstorm and you will be okay in the end. Youâre not alone! â¤ď¸

Itâs one of those night where I want to cut off my legs again⌠why do they hurt so bad?
An Offering
Of Vampires and Men Masterlist
CW: Vampires, slavery, character with epilepsy, aftermath of seizure, temporary paralysis, aftermath of gunshot wound, chronic pain, hopelessness, brief mention of wishing for death to escape pain, fantasy religion.
Reeve is dealing with a lot of complicated emotions in regards to adjusting to life with a disability and chronic pain. Eventually heâll get to a point where has a better relationship with his body, but heâs not there yet in this piece.
It had been three days since his seizure, and Reeve still felt fucking awful. His head pounded and exhaustion weighed down his limbs. He still couldnât move his legs, but at least he could speak and move the rest of his body. He laid in bed, staring at the ceiling. Sleep pulled at his eyelids and he was about to drift off when a soft voice said his name.
Reeve opened his eyes to see Blair standing next to his bed.
âHow is your hip feeling?â They asked.
Reeve groaned. Awful, thatâs how it felt. âSore. And occasionally the stabbing pain comes back.â
Superhero/Supervillain Prompt: Paralysis/Restriced Movement
OCs: Keira the Superhero (aka the Shadowling), and Thorn the Supervillain
Find the Whump Prompt generator here.
I know this was supposed to be a whump drabble for my lab/med whump blog, but it doesn't really match any of those descriptors. So if you'd be interested in seeing a continuation of this (and something far more whumpy) please let me know, I'll gladly oblige!
âMother-â Keira broke off into a string of curses, holding a pale, grey hand over her broken nose. Bea was going to kill her if she found blood on Kieraâs billowy black cloak. Sure, her blood was black, but that didnât mean it wouldnât show up. Kiera knew this well by now.Â
âYouâre so pretty when you bleed, Shadowling.â drawled Thorn.Â
âYouâre.. so pretty.. when youâre not being a massive a-hole.â Kiera replied, her voice nasally and stilted from the effort to not spray blood everywhere.
âYou know, you could just let me walk away for once.â Thorn smiled darkly. âIâm sure no one would blame you. After all, they already know trusting you was a mistake.â
She twisted her wrist around in an upwards-swooping motion, and the vines and weeds below Keiraâs levitating form began to crawl up through the pavement, slithering around the bottom of her cloak. Keira drifted backwards, nimbly avoiding their path. The snake-like plants followed, desperately trying to catch the Shadowling.Â
âWhat, and end this fight so soon? But I havenât had my fun.â Keira teased, not acknowledging her opponentâs jab.
The Shadowling locked eyes with Thorn, and her red pupils glowed from within her black hood. She opened her mouth and used her telepathic powers, allowing a piercing screech to enter Thornâs mind. Thorn gasped, hands flying to her aching head. Her eyelids drifted close as she fought back against the pain. Her screams lasted several seconds before she was able to focus. Glowing, white-flowered vines shot out from her hands and curled around her body until they landed on her head, weaving a beautiful flower crown through her white hair before wrapping back down around her arms and chest. It was a mental barrier, of sorts, against Keiraâs powers.
âThanks. I was looking for a new accessory, but I was lacking the inspiration.â Thorn smirked behind her green domino mask, detailed with vines and small white flowers like those on her own vines. âListen, as much as I love a good fight, I have things to do. And youâre in my way.â Her tone turned serious.Â
Good, she was angry. That made her an easy target. Keira slammed her hands together and a thunderous boom echoed around her. She then turned her palms outward, propelling a massive cloud of darkness towards Thorn. Both horrifying and horrified screams mingled in the night air, though only those belonging to Thorn might be heard by a passing civilian. Suddenly, a series of green tendrils penetrated the black cloud. Several of the tendrils wilted under the power of the Keiraâs powers, but ultimately, Thorn was successful. She was still in the same place as she had been before when the darkness cleared.Â
âReally. I must be going now. But if youâre that keen on not letting me leave, why donât you come with me? I can offer you a nice hot cup of tea.â Thorn said with an edge in her voice. She was clearly frustrated, but hadnât yet lost her cool.
âIâll pass, thanks.â Keira retorted, deflecting vines with a flick of her wrist.
âIâm afraid Iâll have to insist.â Thorn snarled, and flung her arms out wide.Â
The vines, increasing in quantity and size by the second, curled around Keiraâs form and snaked up her body, restricting her movement and preventing her from flying away. Keira screamed and struggled, but a vine found its way into her mouth, like a gag. A particularly nasty-looking vine grew from Thornâs palm. It was covered in thorns. How poetic, Keira scoffed in her opponentâs mind. Thorn only smiled, thrusting the vine towards Keira. It snaked up around her neck, and one of the thorns broke the skin.Â
âShouldnât take long before the poison works its way into your bloodstream, Shadowling. This way, I donât have to mess up your beautiful face. At least - not yet.â Thorn smiled, striding towards Keira.Â
Keira squirmed in her restraints for a moment longer, but soon her limbs began to feel heavy, as if they were made of lead. A trickle of sweat slid through her black hair.
âMmf.. mmf..â She mumbled into the vine across her mouth, panicking filling her mind.Â
Her quickened heart beats only made the poison circulate through her system faster. Before long, her body seemed to be on pause. No matter how hard she tried, it wouldnât respond to her commands.Â
âThere we go.â Thorn lifted her hand out, brushing a small tear from Keiraâs cheek. âNot exactly how I pictured bringing you over to my place, but hey. Life is full of surprises.â She lifted Keira up into her arms, letting the vines slip away, and then carried Keira towards her car. It was going to be a quiet trip.
