Centuries later, during the Kali Yuga, a merchant unknowingly transported the same idol—hidden inside a lump of clay-like Gopichandan—on a ship. When the vessel wrecked near Vadabhandeshwara (close to Malpe), Sri Madhvacharya, guided by divine intuition, discovered the idol in the debris. He immersed it in the sacred tank of his Math for purification and later installed it in Udupi on an auspicious Makara Sankranti day nearly 700 years ago.

Since then, Lord Krishna has remained the spiritual centerpiece of Udupi, believed to bless devotees with happiness, protection, and guidance on their path to liberation.
