Sooo… does that mean Brian has a boyfriend because he wants one? 😲 Joking aside, that small, easily overlooked line actually carries a lot of weight. It flips the lens back onto Brian himself. He tells someone they don’t have a boyfriend because they don’t want one, implying that having a partner is ultimately a choice. And if that’s true, then what does it say about Brian and Justin? No matter how much Brian denies, deflect or downplays what he and Justin have, his actions tell a different story. He chose to keep Justin in his life. Again and again (notice how it was always Justin who walks away from their relationship). For someone who prides himself on independence and emotional detachment, that’s monumental. Deep down, whether he admits it or not, Brian has what he has because, on some level, he wants it.
