Multimedia Development and Editing Summary
I was not quite sure what to expect from this class, I knew I would be diving into media editing, but I did not realize how challenging that would be. I assumed I would be creating videos and learning how to edit on iMovie, or maybe using Photoshop for a better quality of photo in my articles. Going in I was extremely nervous, I am not exactly the most technology proficient person on the planet. I knew I had an uphill climb so that I could make sure I created sound and competent work. I had no idea what was in store for me!
The course demanded of me better time management skills, as well as the flexibility to move quickly on learning photography and audio editing techniques. The course also demanded me to look at visuals in a different way. Instead of focusing solely on the words in my article, I also needed to focus on how the pictures or video slide shows were going to help tell my stories. This meant that not only did I have to find engaging newsworthy stories, but also stories that would have a visual appeal to readers. Very tricky!
The content I found most helpful during this course was Week One with photojournalism and the Rule of Thirds. I really found the lessons on camera angles to be extremely helpful in capturing a better photo. I also enjoyed being introduced to Adobe Spark. Going forward I will definitely use Adobe Spark again for future photo projects, Especially Adobe Spark Video. It is fun to be able to put a voice to the photos in your story.
This course helped prepare me for my career as a journalist by training my brain early on to be able to meet a hard deadline under pressure. It also showed me that there are many other visual ways to tell a story, and not to be afraid to jump into new multimedia editing software when the occasion, and story calls for it. I look forward to seeing what Digital News Production has in store for me!
