First dress: the light board operator is sick
The director: can you run lights?
Second dress: the soundboard operator is sick
The director: can you run lights again as I switch everyone in the booth around?
Me, the stage manager who has never had a dry tech class: *screams*
I needed a teddy bear doctor today.
So apparently I react very badly to strobe lights... as in, I almost dropped our Bat Boy because I was about two seconds from fainting almost instantly.
If I had gotten more sleep last night, I don't think it would have made me as fucking wretched as it did. I ended up not being able to continue in rehearsal, so I basically passed out on the green room couch all throughout the rest of rehearsal, trying not to wake up vomiting my stomach contents all over the floor.
I also felt.. a little lost. See, I am blessed enough to have a woman in my life who I consider to be my best friend. The only thing about this person is that she doesn't do... comfort very well. As in, she not one to comfort others easily. And tonight... I think I needed my best friend to give me a shoulder to cry on about how embarrassing this was... about how terrible and how much of a burden on the entire cast and crew I felt all of a sudden... about everything.
And she just couldn't do it.
I still love her dearly... but goddammit. In that moment, I needed a teddy bear doctor to give me the prescribed moose hug I clearly needed.
