I was writing something the other day, and was doing a bit of research back on the day Omega Red had the Carbonadium Synthesizer stolen by Team X and my jaw just dropped when I read this part again in Wolverine Origins #8:
WHAT DO YOU MEAN LOGAN WANTED TO USE THE C-SYNTHESIZER TO KILL VICTOR!?!?!?!?
In all the times I have read this scene, I can't believe it didn't sink in until now. I have said it before that Marvel never gave Logan a reason to keep the device away from Arkady, but here it is, staring me right in the face: Logan’s experience with Carbonadium before this made him want to use it on Victor.
It was never really about Arkady at all.
He was just another victim of the Logan/Victor rivalry.
I can't help but think about all the juicy meat that can be explored about this. There's so many layers to it that I never considered before. Logan and Arkady really should talk on page about all this, because there really is so much to dive into about that day and the parallels these two have, especially when you do consider the Victor angle.
Logan is tormented yearly on his birthday. Victor said he was going to wish Arkady a "Happy Birthday," which means: A. He considers the day Arkady was fully weaponized as Omega Red's birthday (which has so much dark and tragic symbolism) and B. Raises the question on what would have happened had Arkady not successfully fought off Victor here. Would he have been subject to the same yearly "Happy Birthday" that Logan gets?
I have to explore this more. This is giving me ideas.
