For those interested in teaching archaeology in your classroom, museum, library, or nature center, Project Archaeology is offering a 10% discount on their online workshop that begins on February 5: e-mail [email protected] to get your discount code and register by January 22! For an additional $42, you can get 2 graduate credits! Visit the link above to learn more.
Recommended for 3rd-6th grade teachers, but adaptable for anyone teaching K-12 students formally or informally, you will use this virtual workshop to practice the basics of scientific inquiry (observation, inference, evidence, and classification) using authentic archaeological data.
Learn firsthand how to help your students apply archaeological concepts as they uncover a shelter from colonial, Native American, frontier, and/or slave life. All while using primary data sources such as maps, artifact illustrations, historic photographs and oral histories. By using this curriculum you will fulfill many Common Core State Standards requirements in social studies, English Language Arts, and math. You can customize your course by choosing which shelter you want to investigate! We highly recommend the, "Investigating a Midwestern Wickiup" shelter, which was developed here at the University of Iowa Office of the State Archaeologist, featuring a wickiup from the Bell site in Wisconsin and contemporary perspectives from Meskwaki Tribal Museum staff in Tama, Iowa!
