One of the bright spots of summer school has been a junior who is just so delightful and pleasant.
Today was her last day, and she left me her dad’s phone number and said that he makes the best carnitas. 😂 She talked him up and mentioned all their horses and their second home in Mexico.
Girl. lol. I will miss her and her never ending ranking of scary movies, but I will not be reaching out to her papa.

Education fact of the day!
Have you heard the whole "learning styles" thing? The idea that certain people are biologically "visual learners" or "auditory learners," etc. Apparently around 90% of people believe it's true: Belief in learning styles myth may be detrimental.

The best practice is to give students variety, which tends to spark their brains more.
There is some additional complexity with things like disability (obviously focusing on accessibility is vital) but in general, students learn best when given variety and being helped to engage, not when you give them the same type of thing over and over again.
First meeting for ss today then absolutely killed it, straight murder, at the gym lol. Probably the hardest I’ve pushed yet, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but it’s definitely one of my happy places now. I feel so good!!!!! (Well, like, I’m trembling and have no energy now but in a good way.)
Was given a shocking (not really as a teacher) number of additional roles for June that were completely unexpected, but that’s what happens when you openly work with others and strive to do a good job. Not to be a b about it, but we all know the name of the game.

I relate so hard to those tiktoks that are all “me and somebody’s mom hanging out at work” because like. Almost all of my coworkers are middle-aged women with children. It’s actually so weird. I’ll be chatting with them about their weekend and they bring up their spouses and kids and I’m like. Ah. Yeah. I uh. Live with my parents and siblings. And spend 8 months a year in a college dorm. Lol.
(I love my work besties tho theyre so fun, they make me very excited to be a cool middle-aged teacher who just gets to be fun and silly and hang out with kids all day)

School is not over. We have a week and a half, but I am so ready to further mess up my classroom so I can clean and organize before we have to move all of the furniture to get the floors waxed. My poor students who are doing their assignment listening to crashes of papers and books from the closet.
