I think instead of getting offended by everything others say, we should first try to educate people on different social issues. As an Asian American I have been asked countless numbers of times when I’m going “back to China”, what language I speak, and have been confused for many different races and religions and have had my family name (Sun) said wrong by many strangers and teachers, and been called “chink” and “yellow” tons of times. I’ve learned that instead of getting mad at the obviously racist assumptions and comments, I ask questions to see what they know about my culture and what is considered offensive to them and instead of berating them, I teach them. You never know how naive some people are and who want to just genuinely learn but don't know how to go about it. So allow your friends to ask about your heritage, sexuality, ethnicity, culture, conditions, and other “strange” things to people who just weren’t exposed to the same social and cultural differences than others. And teach them the politically correct way to ask instead of getting offended at their try and learning.
