i’ve thought about this a lot, being that i do love relationships between characters, and i also love thinking abt mercedes ffgjgbkjg. i feel as though i usually end up writing women who are in love, or are very much in the love - struck trope. mercedes definitely has the look of one of these characters to me, but i don’t think mercedes is someone who is very interested in love for herself. i think like, she’s always been so focused on becoming a better sister/mother figure to everyone. ( this, i think because of her feelings that she’s betrayed emile  --- i WILL talk about this at a later time ). i also think, since mercedes is older than a lot of her classmates, especially the one’s she’s close to, she really feels like an older sister figure to most of them. i think she does enjoy spending time with her classmates that are a bit closer to her age range, like sylvain. 

speaking of sylvain, she has supports with him and lorenz and ferdinand. all of them are more or less bachelors and seek to flatter women. and i think it’s so funny that mercedes’ tends to deflect flirtatious comments/ignore them. i do think she does this because she thinks they’re joking/ have no interest in her as a person, or she really has no interest in a relationship/she can’t focus on one.
