I was suspicious of this pickled egg because I was afraid I would get tummyache but I didn't and it was really tasty

the hard boiled pickled egg was good, but my mom boiled it into a weird shape imo
Eggtober 27th 2023
"Marked": Tea Egg
(Clip Studio Paint, Gouache Brush, Gouache Blender. 5 colors, 45-ish minutes.) I wasn't really sure what a tea egg was before I drew this, I'd just heard of it in passing before. I figured they involved cooking the egg with tea but wasn't 100% sure on the process. But yeah, you par-boil them, crack them, and then boil them the rest of the way in tea or a spiced liquid to flavor the egg. I had errands today so I didn't study the pattern of the cracks too closely but I feel like this is a good vibes-based first attempt. I saw another similar sort of egg that I intended to do for Halloween, that has this sort of look, so I'll try to focus more on the shapes of the cracks and how the cooking liquid dyes the whites. But for a first attempt at this sort of pattern, I like it!
Hopefully @lady-quen's breadbugs like tea!
Slapping the @ for @quezify and prancing off to do some nonsense before bed.
But first, the speedpaint!
Feeding my desire to draw shiny as much as possible with this one. I love rendering the undisturbed exterior of a boiled egg. So smooth. The crackle is the point but I really like the base egg I made here and putting that reflected light on it.
tea eggs my beloved.... i miss them. i want to eat them so badly
for @quezify's eggtober!!

This is not coming out the way I want it. At least the tea egg is good.
Eggscuse me!?
🥚
Today i boiled my eggs in a kettle. I then experimented with adding tea and left over ramen juice (sauce? Spicy water??) into the kettle and it resulted in a soft boiled "tea egg" or the best imitation you can make easily. I'm pretty happy with it i might try getting the spidery pattern on the tea eggs next time and detail how i did it (you essentially boil the egg, crack the shell and leave it in the tea so that you get cool patterns).
