Summary:
Class 1-A don't find Vigilante Deku.
Instead, when Izuku drops out of UA, he disappears for five agonizing years, forcing his peers to grapple with his absence, especially Katsuki and Shouto, whose desperate, grief-fueled search changes the trajectory of their lives.
But when Izuku finally resurfaces, he's not who they remember—quirkless, struggling with addiction and a shell of the person he once was, leaving Katsuki and Shouto to question whether it's too late to save what's left of him.
Chapter seven snippet - Shouto's POV:
Unable to hold himself upright a second longer, Shouto collapses in relief, and then, just as quickly, a fresh anger wells up inside him. He grasps Izuku desperately by his upper arms and yells, “What were you thinking? You don’t have a quirk! What if I wasn’t here? What if I was too late?” Izuku turns away from him and Shouto chokes on his words, striving to make him understand. “You could have died! I can’t go through that again, Izuku. Do you hear me? I can’t go through that again.” Izuku says nothing, a stubborn pout on his face, and Shouto pulls him into a feverish embrace, selfishly taking Izuku’s warmth for himself. How could he think that their spirited, heroic, kind-hearted Izuku would ever be content watching from the sidelines?
