swallow the betrothed, for the wip title ask!!!
ahhh! that is one of my lesser working titles for a tarwen aka tauriel x arwen fic, yes that’s right, arwen from lord of the rings and tauriel from the hobbit movies. one of my FAVORITE rarepairs.
anyway, it’s a fairytale AU where Tauriel is a disgraced warrior witch living in the woods surrounding Rivendell who frees Arwen from an arranged marriage through, er, unconventional methods....
She killed a man, plugged him full of arrows. The knowledge should inspire fear. Tauriel expected it.
“No.” Somehow, Arwen immediately knew she’d disappointed her. “I can’t explain it.”
“I lived under a king once. He underestimated me, too.” A wry smile overtook Tauriel’s face that suggested this king had come to regret his error in judgment.
“My father isn’t like that,” Arwen corrected, defensive on his behalf, guilty as she realized suddenly what a harsh light she had painted him in. “He is good and kind. A wise ruler.”
Tauriel arched a disbelieving brow. “Then why don’t you return to him?”
“If I do, I would have to marry. I’m his only child. He has no choice.”
“Hmm… You would leave your father to his fate?” Tauriel looked at her with inscrutable eyes, but Arwen heard the challenge in her voice. “Without an heir, the kingdom could fall to instability. It could be conquered, fall to ruin…”
Arwen shuddered at the horror of her words, at the blood-soaked images they brought forth in her mind. Although they were not new to her. She’d thought of all these possibilities and worse, agonized over them, before she made her choice.
“I’ve had enough of duty.” She tried to sound strong, but her voice trembled. She forced up her chin defiantly, though he could not look Tauriel in her bright green eyes. “What should I choose—their ruin, or mine?”
“Theirs.” Arwen was shocked to feel Tauriel’s words on her neck— a breath, the ghost of her lips. “Always theirs.”
