Taro update!! 🌱🌱🌱🌱 We're apparently gonna freeze hard (for our area) tonight. Normally it'll freeze at nights and get hot during the day, but it's been slightly rainy and overcast, so I'm trying to figure out how I'll protect my taro plants. I also harvested a bunch more leaves to dry for cooking. And I'll try a small batch of pickled stems. 👉 I dug out the first smaller crate (the older taro, planted in June, 2020 - five months ago) to see if any tubers grew, and the roots were so long, going into the ground, lol. There were so many healthy new shoots, but only one measly, ugly taro. (And one or two more hints of new tubers forming, but the shoots were too young.) Still, I'm proud of it! It only has one bug-eaten spot, thankfully the acids in raw taro seem to be a natural pest repellant. I just hope the winter doesn't kill all my plants off! 🙏 I haven't touched the bigger crate yet, but there are some super small sprouts, so I'll bring at least one of them indoors. If all the outdoor ones die, at least I'll have one ready for next spring. I really dont know if the paper bags are gonna help.
